If you were running scouts and during a discussion of declining membership the question was raised "Why are we excluding girls from joining?" what would be your answer?
I was a Cub Scout Wolf - Webelo, was a Boy Scout, got to first or second class before I dropped out around 14. Went to summer camp a few times, blue swimmer, shot .22's, made fires, built flag stands out of lumber and twine, did all the fun stuff. It was a good experience for me.
And again, I don't care if girls are allowed, I think there could very well be great lessons for girls the same as boys. But, as I said, the push behind this is today's PC environment.

Cool as I also started out in the cub scouts progressing to webelos and finally to the boy scouts where I earned many achievements including the arrow of light. I don't have much experience with girl scouts, but the little bit of research I've done seems like they are still preparing girls for the 1950s, not 2030.

I don't know, something about being "Boy Scouts" I guess. If they want to fundamentally change what they are, so be it. But there are reasons why some groups shun a co-ed environment. I guess we'll have to see how it plays out.

Couldn't disagree more. My daughter certainly did NOT want boys around during girl scouts. Guys tends to be sexual predators.
I was in Scouts until I was around 15. Made it to Life. So close to Eagle. But just lost steam. Started dating, working and sports. Boy Scouts gotleft behind. Maybe if girls were allowed and you could spend time with them on weekends camping or doing other scout activities I would have stayed in the rest of the way.

The moral values and good judgment taught to scout members should be enough to prevent any foul play from occurring and strict rules should prevent inappropriate consenting behavior from happening in such an environment.

In theory, such a situation would also teach boys and girls that they are equals and that forcing yourself on another is wrong and treating girls different than boys is also wrong. Basically it would remove the societal norms of women be subservient to men and reduce the number of Harvey Weinsteins in this country.

do you honestly believe that mixing adolescent youth who are just experiencing their new found sexuality will be stopped of any foul play from occurring because of strict rules which in theory should prevent inappropriate consenting behavior from happening in such an environment.
Are you prepared to require scoutmasters teaching them sex education including what is considered sexual assault/harassment, but be ready, willing, and able to pass out condoms and birth control pills including morning after pills in case of an accident to these children just in case your theory doesn't pan out under this new all inclusive tent?

Yes and in theory, the values and morals taught by the boy scouts to their members at a young age would prevent such things from happening as they grow up and by the time their are grown up, things like sexual assault and harassment would be a thing of the past.
Do I believe knowledge fixes a lot of these issues? Absolutely? My proof? A comparison of those that live in a mixed race environment where people who aren't like each other interact with each other every day and do so respectfully.
We can treat girls and women with kid gloves and brush off bad behavior from boys and men as them just being guys and its just locker room talk and hope things will change but I personally think there are better ways.
Do you really think rape happens because people are ignorant? I would imagine rape happens because someone wants sex and does not respect the sovereignty of others. Its the same for things like theft. People don't steal because they are unaware that stealing is wrong. They steal because they want something and think they can get it without getting caught.
If rape were due to not knowing rape is wrong, then people would rape and not try and hide it.

As to the change it could be helpful in my family. The Girl Scouts aren't an option unless we want to start a troop ourselves which we don't have the time to do. For those of you concerned about the end of the world as we know it, go start your own group. Sounds like the BSA is trying to be responsive to what its members want which is what any organization tries to do to stay relevant as society changes.
Please, we all know that this is not about what's best for your children, but about your slavish devotion to political correctness.
Well I do ensure that I refer to my dog by its preferred gender and my children's favorite game is "spot the white male privilege" and we selected the interior color of our house by taking the average skin tone of all the people in the world.
