Just installed a used HD 7850 and PC shutting down when gaming

Now I have a HD 4870 also which uses 2 PCIE power connectors and my PSU plays it just fine.

I have a 460 Watts cooler master elite PSU and my system is a SSD with Pentium G3220 TDP 54W

I bought a XFX Ghost 7850 1GB video card used from Amazon I swapped it in today but I did notice one of the capacitors was bent so I straightened it with my finger. could this have caused any harm? it was not that bent really.

PC works fine for web browsing etc but it will turn off when gaming it only takes a few seconds of gaming to do so.

Could this possibly be a driver issue? i installed the latest drivers and did uninstall my old HD 4870 drivers.

I am so sad right now I live in the Caribbean so I don't know about shipping this thing back. I paid $55 for it but still a lot of money for me

Update so far the problem does not seem to occur when running furmark stress test in window mode 1080p 4X AA

seems to be running fine but games atleast in fullscreen like metro 2033 and DayZ so far those are the 2 I have tested is causing PC to just shut off.

part of the risk of buying used. Almost sounds like someone dumped their faulty card off on you. Can you return to Amazon and fork over a little more coin to purchase a new one?

yeah the seller's name is miners surplus. Was too good to be true, he had a single 5 star rating so I took the chance.

funny thing is I am getting a bunch of errors all saying, razer snapse is not responding then kbsync not responding then like a huge bunch of stuff not responding even windows explorer is crashing now.

I could return the card to amazon since it was fullfilled by amazon. Not even sure its worth it thank god I paid only $55 for this but $13 shipping to the caribbean.

guess I learned my lesson never buy AMD and also never buy used.

seems like the card is indeed faulty. Ow well....

Can you post a screenshot of GPU-Z (use the camera icon upper right)? I'm curious if the BIOS has been modified.

Hi while I take out the card and put back in my old HD 4870

I would say yes the card is a 975mhz core clock xfx core 7850 1GB. However whats odd is the heatsink is not the fancy heatpipe ones, however when I did drop the clock back down to 860 in MSI after burner it still shut off.

I suppose the issue is the PSU indeed right? because swapping another PSU this time a single rail generic trash PSU performs far far better some games don't even shut off

my current PSU is a stupid $30 cooler master 460W elite on a dual rail which is impossible to combine both rails to feed 1 PCIE power port on the 7850

my dual pcie 6 pin port HD 4870 runs just fine. I think this is a PSU issue but at the same time I am sure the bios in the GPU was modified aswell this was a ex mining card.

Amazingly I put this PSU in another PC with a Athlon X4 760K CPU along with the same 7850 video card it just works fine

It works 100% perfect after many hours in the heat playing most intensive games.
Then when I put it back in the intel haswell system it shuts off ASAP again.

Just Amazing because the AMD CPU uses more watts

i bought the same card from the same amazon seller and am having the same exact problem, my system specs are intel g3420 cpu, ecs motherboard 8gb ram and a 650 watt antec earthwatts psu. and just like op the defualt clocks on this card are 975mhz instead of 860mhz. unlike the op though my card seems to run metro 2033 fine if i down clock to the standard 860mhz core clock.
