First post in this sub forum!

Went from having catless mid pipes to catted mid pipes on my 2008 Dodge Charger 5.7l, and I'm already having pangs of regret..

The JBA high flow mid pipes for my charger use metallic cores, which flow really well; but the loss in power over from being catless was still noticeable....which surprised me, since my car is NA..

My seats of the pants dyno must be really sensitive. Car is also predictably quieter..

Oh well, at least I'm no longer polluting the environment.

Congrats. You aren't just polluting a lot less, you're inhaling a lot less carbon monoxide etc. When I ride in a car with a broken cat or no cat I can smell it

I can't smell it in my car, unless I walk behind it. I'm sure people behind me can smell it though...

I'm curious, what were the motives to getting cats again?

Here's a list of the performance stuff I've done to my car:

RAM Air hood with air box

AFE CAI

BBK 85mm throttle body

JBA shorty headers

JBA catted mid pipes

Borla 125 cat back

Predator tune

Thats pretty much all of the low hanging fruit I think..

I'm with 96Firebird. I could never smell any exhaust while in the car. Behind is another matter entirely though...

I'm all for a clean environment though, so in that respect, I'm glad I decided to install the cats. Just wish it didn't come with a performance loss, even though it's very slight.

I hate regression.

Ah, so you did it for the environmental factor. Good for you, sometimes I wish my car had cats on it, but then when I drive it I prefer the sound without cats.

We have similar mods, my '02 WS6 has SLP lid, SLP smooth bellow, American Racing longtubes, AR ORY, and a Borla catback. Plus some suspension mods and an MGW shifter. We should bench race, I'm sure it would make for an exciting race.

oh ya, cool car mods so far. pics!

i remember when i ripped the cats off my 79 chevy truck. it had dual exhaust, stock 350 and hardly any power to it. i went straight headers with glasspacks between registration months and i was much happier. of course i was probably responsible for my own brown cloud here in the valley for it.

Yeah, I have to admit, my car definitely sounded better catless. Right now, it sounds a little too subdued even.

The Borla 125s aren't very loud to begin with, which was why I bought it. Without the cats, the Borla 125s had the perfect exhaust note. Not too loud, and not too quiet.

With cats though, it sounds too mellow.

Cool. How much HP and torque do you think you're putting out at the wheels? If I had to estimate, I'd say I'm putting out 340-350 hp and 400 tq..

But the charger is so damn heavy! 4100lbs!

Cool stuff op! Welcome to the garage. Would love to see picts of the car!

I'll post pics after I wash and wax my car. I have pics on my phone right now, but those are old. Since then, I've added a spoiler, HALO headlights, smoked LED backlights so the car looks different on the outside.

It's a great looking car though I have to say. It turns heads..

To be honest I have no idea, it needs a tune which I'm thinking I'll get done sometime this summer... I was going to cam it this coming winter and tune it then but its my daily so I think I'll just keep it the way it is for now. With a dynotune, I'll probably be around 340HP/360TQ. I'm 600lbs less, could be a driver's race.

Can't wait for pics!

I've got 5" turbo-back exhaust on my ride. I can smell it... Not sure if a cat would help to much with the diesel fumes though.

And lets see some pics of the ride.

I can smell mine. Mine is pig rich though so the smell saturates everything.

Even though I have high flow cats, I still have a faint gas smell. Are you sure though that you had a hit to your HP? Typically headers only add 20-30hp at the most and I doubt that cats would less than 5hp which isn't noticeable.

Carbon Monoxide is colorless and odorless. You weren't smelling it unless it means everything including CO.

Just read the other replies.. Whoops, I'm late to the game.

The cat on my old 240 SX smelled like rotten eggs under heavy acceleration.

Try an open exhaust with E85.

As far as fumes getting into the passenger compartment, it depends to a certain extent your car's design. Have a nice diffuser out back and that air isn't swirling around as much and leaking back in.
