Just installed my Zalman CNPS7000AlCu....disappointing temps

After much thought and many reviews I decided to go with the 7000AlCu. Maybe I should have gotten the all copper version. I got 49c idle w/ the retail hsf according to MBM5 and now I'm getting 45c idle w/ the fan at full speed. Only a 4c difference! For being one of the best hsf for the p4, i don't think it's that good...especially not for the 35 dollars I paid for it. At least it's quiet or else I'd be even more disappointed.

I just installed mine yesterday and I really like it. I wasn't using the stock cooler, I was using an AX-478 with a relatively quiet 80mm fan and was getting 39-40 idle up to 62-63 full load temps (2.4C @ 3.12ghz, 1.625 vcore). On a prior P4B and and Epox 4g4A+ that heatsink combo beat the stock heatsink by 2 degrees or so typically.

Now with this Zalman heatsink, I have no increase in sound and am running 37-38 idle (I think idle temps are compressed or something on P4's as it will wake up in 8 secs and measure 37C) and am running 56-57C full load for a decrease of 6C over my other combo and probably around 7-8C difference from a stock heatsink.

One other thing I have noticed is that the PWM sensor reads significantly less and all the air that the heatsink blows around the top half the motherboard has to be keeping other components cool.

Anyway I really like mine............

P.S. I am running without the fan controller for 2800 rpm's instead of 2500 rpms as max with it in-line.

whats your case temp? my system was running at 59 full load cuz of my case temp being at 36-37.. when i added a 120mm fan on the side.. full load temp is now at 52

My case temp is 33C. P4C 3.0 idles at 45C. Zalman 7000Cu set to full speed (2800rpm.) Load temp after 5 runs of Sisoft Burn In (Only Arithmetic and Multimedia tests) I hit 58C.

I just don't understand these temps, don't they seem high? I have 2 Antec 80mm fans @ 2800 RPMs up front... and 2 of the same on the back... Plus one on the side panel blowing air in. All this in an antec soho 1080 case.... I must have massive amounts of airflow here.... Why are my temps so high?

I used arctic silver 3 when mounting the CPU cooler too.

If you are using the smartfan voltage adjustment, throw it in the trash. Just plug the HSF wire straight to your fan plug on the Mobo. Even with it wide open there is enough resistance in its circuitry that you lose about 200rpm. And the fan is almost silent at full speed, and with the case closed there is no way you will hear it.

Ah, as it turns out, the sensors on all IC7 motherboards are about 10C high... so that's why my temps aren't uber low.... I knew it wasn't 90F in this room... heh.

No, that thing is a piece of junk, sorry. There are programs that will do what the Zalman Fanmate does for your CPU fan. It's called Speedfan. That way you don't have to open your case to change your RPMs....

I really like my Zalman. My T-bird 1.5 used to run 50C and top out at 56C under load with my old POS cooler master heatsink. Now my Zalman keeps it at a cool 35C idle, 43C load.

Well my Alpha 8942 w/ 80mm adjustable fan still doesn't look so bad.....On my 494a+ mobo of my 2.4@3.15ghz (the highest I could go pn that board) w/ 1.61v I only saw 38c and loaded at 52c....

I get basically the identical now on the albatron mobo but about 3c less at full load and I am running 90mhz more....

I measure them by swing from idle to load so whether you ant to sya temps are reported low or high differential usually doesn't lie.

I am basically getting a 11c swing from 38-39c idle (this is the temp at high noon since morning temps are deceiving) to 49c load after sevral hours of prime95 v23.6 for heavy burn load...I see some 18c-8c temp swings up there so average of 13c is not all that bad but shows me I shouldn't waste the money upgrading to that particular hsf...

So would the fan automatically run at its highest speed? Or would I need Speedfan to adjust the speed?

If you choose not to use the fan controller, it will run ~400rpm faster than with it. It is still very quiet at this speed and needs no adjustment.

If you want to adjust it for whatever reason (as I said there is no real need though), then you can use speedfan to do so (if your motherboard supports it).

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now.

My temps are VERY low also - perhaps it's because I'm in a relatively cold basement and with great airflow.

CPU: Idle 28C
Load: 33-35C
