Ok Rig specs:

Thunderbird 1.1ghz @ 1266 (9.5x133)
Abit KT7A-Raid
256 Micron Pc133
Windows 2k Pro
SETI 3.03 Client command line version.

After 2 hours and ten minutes I have 33% done. My efficiency is 7.46CpF which is slower than most comparible processors.

Do these #s look right at all?? I am really new to this SETI thing and Win2k as a matter of fact. I have been talking to a few people though and this doesn't seem right.

Frost,

I assume you get that CpF number from SetiSpy? SetiSpy has never been accurate for me, wait and see how long it actually takes to complete the WU before you think it's slow Also remember that there are a lot of difference between the WUs with version 3.03 of the client, if you have a very low angle one it'll take a LONG time no matter how fast your system Assimilator1 has a good practice of letting the machine chew through ca 5 WUs at least before making an average and saying whether it's slow or not. By all means keep an eye on it, but it might not be your system that is slow

Hey TwoFace...

There's a bunch of us (not here that I know of but on Ars) who have decided to boycott ALL very low angle range WUs due to what we believe is a bug in the win CLI. These run fine in Linux, with the Mac, and even with the win GUI, but not the win CLI. Alot of us spent considerable time documenting this, graphing it, etc., and we were ignored (I guess bugs help satisfy "bandwidth problems"...heh).

Whenever we find a VLAR, we're moving them aside to process either with another client or whenever they FIX the bug.... :|

Hehe Poof, I can understand that very well I've only got one system on seti tho' so I can't really move the WU to another machine for processing Also how do you see the angle range before the WU is finished (I'm not that familiar with setispy yet )? I've only been able to find the angle range in the setispy log file and that only updates after the WU is finished for me, and then only if setispy is running when the WU finishes :|

/me hates setispy for that, it takes about 1 minute of cpu time from processing each WU on my PIII 800 it seems

TwoFace - I'm only running 4 machines for SETI - an OC'd P3 (currently 600@950... I clocked it down from a gig), my alpha 433, one processor of my dual Xeon 400 server, and an old sparc that takes 153 hrs/WU. With those, I can get about 6-7/day to my main account and 2-3/day on the Xeon's account. Running it on the rest were kindof a waste, so they're cracking and folding and genoming...

If you want to see the angle range, you can actually open up the work_unit.sah file in a text editor (Wordpad seems to work better than Notepad for the seti text files), and look for a line that says: angle_range=

This is how SetiSpy and other programs find the angle range!

Also, in SetiSpy (if you have version 3.0.3 or newer, just click on the Work Unit option, and the Angle Range will be displayed at the end of the 'Position'. If you have an older version, just hold the mouse cursor over the Position line and the angle range will be shown in a pop-up dialog box...

I see what your getting at Sukhoi

Using a task manager program check that SETI is getting around 98% cpu time with little else running ,if you don't have a Task manager program use this 1 ATM.

BTW how many WU's have you done on that PC? (ref what 2 face said )

Ok I've done 3 now. Things have speed up quite a bit actually I was getting about 5.4cfp last time I checked. Win98 is running SETI alot better too! IT only takes about 7 hours to 7 and a half to complete a WU In 98. Win 2k takes about 5 and a half hours I think. Can't remember. Will update you all a little later. Also thanx all for your help!
