Walking my dog past Whole Foods tonight, I noticed all sorts of non-Whole Foods type people waiting in a long line and hanging around. Discovered that Maynard James Keenan was there to promote some of his wines from his vineyards.

Bought a bottle, got it signed and had the chance to his shake hand. Seemed like a good guy. Security was really strict or I would have had asked him to sign a CD that I had brought and gotten a photo.

Kind of funny was that they had a box labeled, 'Gifts for Maynard'. His promoter told me that folks had dropped off some interesting things - demo tapes, books, revealing pics, etc...

Kind of ironic that his music traditionally has been about the demise of our culture to some extent yet now he's basically a salesman hocking his own brand of junk.

I weep for our future.

How so? Tool has some of the deeper music out there esp from a mathematics standpoint.

What better way to accelerate the demise of our culture than promoting alcoholism?

You can hate/preach against certain aspects of modern culture, and still accept them for what they do offer. Some call that hypocrisy, I call it living in the here and now and hoping for a better future.

Otherwise I'm a walking hypocrite to the extreme, but whatever. I accept that.

However, he is supporting the American economy, buy offering his brand of wine for sale, as an option instead of foreign wines. Better than nothing I'd say. Buy American! If anything, it might prevent our government from buying American wineries.

Well fuck, I buy mostly California wines so you're preaching to the choir as far as that's concerned.

There are very few American cars I'd spend my money on though. I currently own two Japanese cars and one Japanese motorcycle.

Really? Have you listened to any of their music?

Aenima lyrics

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly shit, silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mum's gonna fix it all soon.
Mum's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all these gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands,
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mum please flush it all away.
I wanna see it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it come down.
Come down.
Suck it down.
Flush it down.

try reading about schism.

However, you seen far to tightly wrapped to understand that.

I saw Tool in concert, and he was easily the most f-ed up person at the concert. At one point he ripped off his shirt and pants, donned a cowboy hat, and began grinding his mic stand.

Aenima, Schism, and especially Lateralus (hell, the entire Lateralus album basically), are basically my favorite songs from Tool, sometimes in a way that could be favorite ever, at least towards the top of a comprehensive list.

Lateralus (the song), is just perfect. Not only musically, and especially the mathematical beauty that ties perfectly into the song/concept (hell the entire album is a mathematical wonder), but specifically the lyrical message. I love it.
Tool's the best modern progressive rock band, and I'd say quite possibly the best, or at least my favorite.

You clearly know nothing at all about me.
