I always figured Jack in the Box was a national chain. Ah well.
Kangaroo meat tacos (like mine with no sauce and no lettuce) and grilled chicken strips are good stuffs.
Me too. There are some here in North Carolina for Pete's sake.

jack's spicy chicken with cheese (they use jack cheese)
curly fries
shakes
their salads are also pretty good for a fast food place...not that it'd matter to you.
your mistake at in&out was to get plain fries. get twice fried fries, or animal style fries. (i prefer twice fried)

OK, coming from the Atlanta region, I haven't tried many of the chains we have here in San Diego, including Jack-In-The-Box. And, no, I'm not looking for better restauraunt recommendations... I've already eaten at better places on previous visits and I've even returned to Bronx Pizza since arriving to stay (not sure if I can afford to return to Bucca de Peppo's or the Thai place I visited with the flaming duck).
Yeah, it sounds weird to ask for recommendations for a fast-food joint, but I already made the mistake of ordering a combo at In-N-Out and discovering their TERRIBLE fries... I don't care how fresh they are if they taste like cardboard. If there is no combo discount and they taste terrible, why have the carbs? Next time it'll be just a burger with fresh onions and Diet Coke.
So what is a good item that can serve as an "example" of what JitB is all about? The e-coli burger (that wasn't fair; these days, they blame the beef supplier)?

You wont see any reference to Hardee's, Krystal's, or Checkers/Raceway here in San Diego. There's only ONE Chik-fil-a, which I believe is experimental (Factoid: In addition to the Chicken Sandwich, Chik-fil-a invented the ubiquitous MALL FOOD COURT).

I'm from NC originally and have recently moved from Chicago to Bay Area.
here is what you will miss:
Chick Fil-A
Bojangles
BBQ
we do have Churches, and that's passable I guess. Popeye's is to be avoided like the plague.
In-N-Out is all right and I've yet to try Jack In the Box. as for In-N-Out, the fries I've had do suck. maybe one needs to request crispy or something?

In all seriousness, find a 24hr Mexican restaurant with Carne Asada Fries and order those. Like Alejandros, Alertos, Albertos, etc. They're so good and seem to be exclusive to SoCal as no place in the Bay Area seems to make them.
That $3 jumbo jack/two tacos/fries combo at Jack in the Crack, if you must.

I THINK Taqueria Las Vegas in Milpitas is the closest you will get.
