In all seriousness, find a 24hr Mexican restaurant with Carne Asada Fries and order those. Like Alejandros, Alertos, Albertos, etc. They're so good and seem to be exclusive to SoCal as no place in the Bay Area seems to make them.

That $3 jumbo jack/two tacos/fries combo at Jack in the Crack, if you must.

Kangaroo meat tacos (like mine with no sauce and no lettuce) and grilled chicken strips are good stuffs.

Me too. There are some here in North Carolina for Pete's sake.

This is strange to me as well.. kind of like the floor being pulled out from underneath you.. my hole world is shaken.. I can't trust anything now

I like the sirloin burger with grilled onions and swiss cheese.
And if you are looking for good fairly inxepensive Thai food check out Thai House on Convoy st.
Parking is a bitch but the food is good.

Sourdough Jack, tacos and chicken sandwich. Regular fries suck, try the curly fries.

I like Jacks sirloin burgers. They taste a like the meat is a little better quality and they put fresh onions/tomatoes, lettuce on them.

their salads are also pretty good for a fast food place...not that it'd matter to you.

your mistake at in&out was to get plain fries. get twice fried fries, or animal style fries. (i prefer twice fried)

I like Wendy's Premium Salads... particularly, the Mandarin Chicken with almonds, crispy noodles, and NO dressing. I also eat the mandarin oranges off first (not a fan of "sweets on my meats").

As for the In-N-Out "Animal" fries, yeah, I heard of those when I searched to see if it was "just me" that didn't like their fries and thought they tasted like paper (also trying to see if they were a fluke... NOPE). Didn't hear about "twice fried" though... It seems that neither were on the menu (they stress simplicity). Even if they were, fries are bad enough for you to begin with! I usually avoid them, even at the places where they taste good. FWIW, I prefer Five Guys' fries above all else ("fast-casual" chain expanding out of Washington).

Yeah, I've seen one on an Interstate 85 sign listing the foodservices at a particular exit. I looked it up and the North Carolina locations were an experiment. I guess it went well enough to keep them in business there but not well enough to continue the South-Eastern expansion. Their advertisements are pretty invasive in the markets they occupy but while in GA, other than the Internet, the only references I've seen to JitB were the news reports on people getting the dangerous form of e-coli in the early 90s.

You wont see any reference to Hardee's, Krystal's, or Checkers/Raceway here in San Diego. There's only ONE Chik-fil-a, which I believe is experimental (Factoid: In addition to the Chicken Sandwich, Chik-fil-a invented the ubiquitous MALL FOOD COURT).

Nope... That's why I'm going to share it with my sister, who exclusively referrs to them as "Jack-In-The-Crack."

I'd normally NEVER order a shake and, other than trying In-N-Out's fries (which I gave away after "trying them" thoroughly), I don't eat fries. I gave mine away to two guys who looked like they were enjoying theirs and I couldn't believe that they actually took them (knowing what they taste like). I also don't add cheese or bacon to a sandwich and I usually order lean meats (grilled chicken). I avoid all forms of pork, which is usually easy because I don't like sausage (too greasy) or ham (sweets 'n' meats? no thanks).

I just wanna try JitB to satisfy my curiosity so I'll go with your recommendations, even if they are bad for you (only this once).

The only thing JiTB has that I ever thought was actually better than most other places is the stuffed jalapenos. I dunno how they are now, but the salads used be above average for fast food fare as well.

I've already eaten at better places on previous visits and I've even returned to Bronx Pizza since arriving to stay (not sure if I can afford to return to Bucca de Peppo's or the Thai place I visited with the flaming duck).

Yeah, it sounds weird to ask for recommendations for a fast-food joint, but I already made the mistake of ordering a combo at In-N-Out and discovering their TERRIBLE fries... I don't care how fresh they are if they taste like cardboard. If there is no combo discount and they taste terrible, why have the carbs? Next time it'll be just a burger with fresh onions and Diet Coke.

So what is a good item that can serve as an "example" of what JitB is all about? The e-coli burger (that wasn't fair; these days, they blame the beef supplier)?

I'm from NC originally and have recently moved from Chicago to Bay Area.

here is what you will miss:

Chick Fil-A
Bojangles
BBQ

we do have Churches, and that's passable I guess. Popeye's is to be avoided like the plague.
In-N-Out is all right and I've yet to try Jack In the Box. as for In-N-Out, the fries I've had do suck. maybe one needs to request crispy or something?

Where and When? Only could have happened in the last five or so years?

When I was young, the only thing I knew about Jack in the Box was E. coli tainted meat. In fact, that's still the first thing I think about whenever I see one, as that was my initial introduction to the joint. Probably why I still haven't eaten there...

there are four chick-fil-a's in san diego. one in chula vista, one on sports arena blvd, one in san marcos and one in oceanside.

hardee's is carl's jr out here, and there's an abundance of those out here.

checker's is rally's and there are five in san diego. one in chula vista, one near imperial beach, one is spring valley, one in el cajon and one in escondido.

you're on your own for krystals. but who needs krystal burgers when you have in-n-out out here?!?

edit: forgot about the chick-fil-a off college near mira costa college at the carlsbad/vista border. make that five.

If you're around Santa Clara.. try 99 Chicken out. Their chicken wings are.. some of the best ever.
