most people would want 5's...if you got a 5 with 5 ones you would come on here telling us how he gave you the 5 ones because he expected you give you some back in a tip....

better than 33%? it's clear to see math wasn't your strong suite.

and spelling wasn't yours

my error is not spelling, it was a bad choice of words. not the same thing.

Truth.

Delivery persons don't get compensated for car mileage or gas - they have to take that hit. Not tipping well is just an asshole thing to do, especially with today's gas prices.

Go shove something up your out-hole.

and you are a fvcking idiot. he tiped $3 on a $10 bill. THATS a great tip!

It's "tipped".

And rising energy costs increase OVERALL cost of living, as energy drives the economy. Since deliverymen have to buy their own gas AND generally make below minimum wage because tips are considered part of their income, they get hit with a double whammy.

Learn some economics people. I love how everyone considers 20% to still be sufficient, like we're still in the 90s Boom or something.

These days, I'm tipping service people who get lower than minimum wage and are reliant on tips as part of their income 35-40% in most cases*. This is delivery people, waitstaff, etc. Someone who already makes a flat rate per hour (bellboys, hairdressers, etc) still only gets about 10-15%, because that's just a "thank you", and they aren't really reliant upon it as livable income.

*provided they do their job. If your service sucks, your tip is going to suck. You get paid to do work....if you don't work, I'm not going to compensate you for it.

1) delivery drivers make mine wage. at least here in IL.

2) If they are not makeing enough then they need to get a better job. it is NOT my job to make sure they make a living.

3) anything above 20% tip for a delivery driver is GOOD.

so if I go to pizza hut and they fill my drink 2 in a half hour they should get $7 on a $14 bill? Figuring that they get more than one table....and for an hour....they could be making upwards of $15 in that case. Defintiely not more than 20% at restraunts.

Delivery...I usually give whats easy. But theres not way even with the rise in gas cost that it costs more than 50 cents to get to my house/dorm. Therefore if I give him $3. He made $2.50 and it took him maybe 10 minutes. If he does 4 deliveries and hour(highly likely here) he will make $10 on tip alone. Sounds good enough to me.

What does everyone tip when getting a haircut? From a normal haircut joint, not some fancy salon.

1) Fair Enough. That's not the case here in NC. Or at least it wasn't last time I checked, which I admit was several years back...

2) Ignorant viewpoint. If everyone could magically "get a better job" and make more money, why don't we all make what Gates makes? I support the low income worker because at least they *got* a job. There's always the option to just abuse the unemployment/welfare system. At least these people are willing to do it the hard and right way rather than mooch.

Show some support. Don't be a stingy turd.

3) Depends. It's fine if they do in fact make minimum wage or higher. If not, and he got it there fast and was courteous, don't be a tightwad and give him a few extra bucks. You can afford it, and he probably needs it.

I get mine cut in a Salon, and usually tip $3-$4.

Bear in mind, my hairdresser is also getting paid the $18 for the cut. She's self employed. I don't know what her margin is on a cut, but I know she's not using $18 worth of supplies on me considering I don't have it washed there, I don't do gel or spray, no coloring, nothing like that. Just chop it back.

i dont need to show support. only support i have to give is MAKE sure my family survive.s how i did that is i worked my rear end off in college and after to make sure i do not have to take a crap job.

I do not have to make sure Joe the delivery guy is makeing his bills. I do not really care if he is because i have to worry about my bills.

When someone delivers a pizza to my house i tip $3+1per pizza over the first one. I do not have to make sure he is making enough. i also do not care if he is.

But from experiance (worked delivery for pizza hut for 5 months) they make mroe then you are thinking. On friday+saturdays i would avarage $10 an hour on tips alone then i got $.25 delivery fromthe store +pay. So they are usually makeing a good living.

What, you want a cookie for paying too much for a tip ($3 on a $10 order???) and then thinking you'd just pwned the delivery guy? Not to mention if you really did piss the guy off, even with the big tip, I would wonder if that's the wisest thing to do, since he apparently had an hour and a half to do god knows what to your food. He just might remember that next time he has to deliver to your place ...

Actually I didn't miss the point, though I did point out something that is mostly irrelevant. For not understanding the distinction, I give Lord Maul two

OK, fine, whatever. It's technically a 3.3333333333333333333333333333333333 tip. So, only 30.33333333333% percent. Fricking geeks.

Happy now?
