For my parents. I hate buying new grills at the begining of the season since they are so damn expensive and you know you can get them on clearance at the end, but they really want one now.

They got a new grill 2 years ago at lowes for about $150 (a thermos, i think) and since then the side burner almost started a fire on the side of our house, the gas tubes got clogged up and the burners burn unevenly. grates are made of some flimsy metal too.

I checked out craigslist and someone was selling a weber genesis silver "B" for $250. Flavorizer bars and grates are brand new. I got it for 220 minus the tank. scraped off some debris on the inside but I don't think I have to do anything else. This thing is built so well! I couldn't believe I found a grill in good condition for this cheap, but it seems like people are selling grills all the time.

bleh sorry, blurry picture. galaxy s4 does a really bad job at image stabilizing.

Nice.. I did the same thing a year ago.. got a genesis 1000 for $30, replaced grates and flavorizers.. repainted the wooden bits to black. Works great! Replacement parts are plentiful for Weber grills!

the plastic parts are a little bit faded since they are old. I'm thinking about spray painting them or something. some of the replacement parts are pretty expensive. the side table is $60, eesh.

I love my Weber gas grill...We got a Genesis Gold B unit (no side burner) at Home Depot about 8-9 years ago. It had a dent in the back sheet metal from them locking it up with a cable...paid $300 for a $699 BBQ.
Last year, I noticed the cook box had warped and the inside of the lid had rusted. Plus, I had a fire under one knob.
I contacted Weber...they sent me ALL the parts, including burners, gas valves, etc. at no charge. I bought new grates from Amazon. I now have a totally new gas grill on an older cart...cost me less than $50.
 to Weber for great customer service.

How did the inside of the cook box warp? do you leave yours covered?

I also had a thermos grill and the knob control for one burner rusted out or malfunctioned somehow. Instead of directing the propane to the grill, it vented it under the grill. One day i was cooking and a fire erupted from under it and burned my legs.

I also found a used Weber with side burner and got it for a steal at $75. The internals are starting to rust but Weber parts are plentiful. Glad I went this route instead of paying around $500 for an equivalent model.

I got mine on CL about 5 years ago for $100 although it's only a 2 burner model it works great, was only 6 months old when I got it, owner lived in a gated community, turns out his wife was pissed he brought home a model that didn't feature a side-burner LOL..

Weber grills are awesome and their warranty/support are great too. If you need any replacement parts, just give them a call and most likely they'll replace it.

I love Weber grills. though i go the charcoal rout. Though i have heard a ton of great things about the gas line. My Father-in-law had a really nice gas one. it was going on 8 yeas or so and worked great.

I don't think i have ever purchased a new grill. I always see 1 or 2 a year at garage sales or auctions

Nice!

I got the exact same model off of craigslist last year. I bought mine for a bit less, but had to replace the flavorizer bars and the igniter. Given this model is about 10 years old, its in fantastic shape.

The guy had another one exactly the same model but for $150., it was in slightly worse condition, would have had to spend another 40 on flavorize bars and 60 on new grates. The replacement parts on these grills do add up. But still way better than buying a made in China rubbish grill that will last for 2 years and then rust out

Yes, I did leave it uncovered for most of its life...it sat on a covered patio. It's covered since we moved north.

The cookbox (bottom box) warped across the front. Probably left it on HIGH for way too long. There was about 3/4" of bow from side to side...to the point where the grates barely stayed in place. Weber took one look at the pictures I sent and replaced it without question.

I've picked up at least 2 weber grills on the side of the road that just needed to be rebuilt. $75 bucks in parts later and I have a brand new grill.

I tossed that exact grill last year. entire inside was pretty much rotted out. Of course I didn't know how cheap the replacement parts were or I might have just replaced everything rather than get a new one.

I did the same about 7 years ago. Paid $125 for a Weber 3 burner model on CL and it's been great. It's lived outside, basicaly uncovered (I know, I know) its whole life and it finally got to the point this year that it needed to be restored.

$100 in parts and paint later and it's like brand new again. I fully expect another 10 years of use out of it.
