Just played AoE: Castle Siege. They ruined the franchise!

It's just another Clash of Clans clone. All those games can go die in a fire as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: Also, Age of Empires Online already did a good job of ruining the future of the franchise. Doesn't matter to me though, we got Age of Empires II HD and that's all that matters.

Yea. MS had a chance to make a decent AoE game for mobile and blew their chance.

Love AoE II HD. Might go back and play that a bit.

Surely the name alone is a disaster, let alone the tripe that follows. If I see anything labeled as "Siege" I immediately walk the other way knowing it'll be cheap & nasty.

I have to admit that despite owning it, I have never played AoE 3. I guess I spent too much "college" time playing 2 .

Actually you didn't give Age of Empires Online a chance. You just assumed its bad. I played it extensively, and it was great. Don't compare it to the garbage out now...

Golden Rule #1 - Never buy a sequel which is : A: released long after the original & is made by a different design team, or B: Involves "casual gamers", tablets or mobiles in any way, shape or form...

No, I did play it. It was garbage. If it was called "Clash of Factions" or something else I wouldn't care about it, but when you use the Age of Empires name, expectations follow, and it did not deliver.

I did give AOE: Online a chance and it was just awful. In fact, I consider it the worst money I've ever spent on a game and I have plenty of games I've never even played (and many I probably never will). When it worked it was boring and immensely repetitive. Much of the time I spent fighting just to get the game to run. It had the absolute worst installer/launcher I've EVER used. DOS era games were less trouble to get working. Now MS has shut down the game so I couldn't even play it if I wanted.

Age of Empires Online had already destroyed the AoE franchise long before this reskinned IAP-laden crap. Sad what has happened to such a venerable franchise, but the only decent AOE games that exists today are Age of Empires II HD and Age of Empires 3.

It's a freemium (IAP) game. You make purchases within the game.

I just wanted to try the game out. No harm. It already got deleted.

I don't understand the hate for AoE 3. I liked the game. Maybe it was "dumbed down" for the casual gamer. I still thought the game was decent.

He didn't say AoE3 was bad. I personally think the game is decent, but it does have a lot of annoying little quirks and does not have anywhere near the level of polish that Age of Empires II has.

I liked Age of Empires 3. Sure, it wasn't as good as Age2, but it was a fair cry from Age Online and the other monstrosities carrying the Age of Empires name.

This. AOE3 at least had the basic mechanics right, but it just didn't hold together as a package. AOEII was the last world-class game in that franchise, imo.

And yes, reboots almost always suck.
