What was your experience like with the Open Beta? Promising looking game? Obviously they will continue to work on balancing and other issues but was it fun to play?

yes, preordered the CE

I just started open beta this weekend. I never played the original FF mmo so I don't have that info to go on but the gameplay seems a little slow to start and took some digging to figure out the quest system. It also seems like you have to set up a lot of your own hotkeys.

Another item is that character creation is very involved and so far I haven't seen much info on how creation choices will affect character development.

The preorder gives people access to the game 8 days early, thats the main selling point.

Alright I need to clear this up. Did you preorder the CE of FFXIV in person at a futureshop store? I went to place my preorder and the fat salesman told me they don't do preorders of CE games. The closest gamestop/bestbuy is 3.5h/6h drive from where I live and I'm thinking about going back into futureshop and demanding that they preorder me the game or I will scalp them.

Huh lol. Maybe some stores do and some don't? But that doesn't make any sense. Maybe they call it something other than preorder and he's not very good at figuring out what you mean? Or maybe he's just out of the fluking loop and doesn't know the store's own policies?

At any rate yeah I just walked in and asked if I could preorder it and the girl I talked with, cute girl too , said sure just put down a $5 deposit and we will call you when the game comes in. Maybe they don't call it a preorder since you are only placing a deposit to hold the game when it comes in? Isn't this what a preorder is anyway though?

Yep. Buddy told me they don't do perorders on ce because they don't know how many they will get and it's first come first serve. I'll be going back in tomorrow to tell them otherwise as other futureshops in Canada seem to be taking perorders.
He told me I could preorder the se but I can't wait until the 30th to play!

Huh. Well even if they don't know how many they will be getting the deposit could still reserve a copy for you. So if you are 5th in line and they only get 4 then you will be called when they get their 2nd batch. Right?

I soooo don't know yet. It looks fun and all but I have like max 10 hours of play time per week and I don't think it's that casual friendly...

I tried FFXI when it came out but got bored fast...

Maybe i'll wait and see or return to AoC...

I am waiting. Too much to fix to play right now, let alone pay extra to play 8 days early while they work the bugs out and do maintenance. Not to mention thousands of people starting out at the same exact time making OB look like there were plenty of mobs. Not worth it to me.

I had poor experiences with the beta as well. Very pretty graphics, but that's about the end of the positive remarks I've got.

I haven't played any FFs since about 4, so I really had no expectations going in. The beta site is so screwy I couldn't even post bug reports - every time I log in, I'm a different username, and as soon as I click most of the links, I'm directed to log in again.

The beta downloader speed is abysmal (not sure why, frankly). Lots of posts telling you to port forward, so I did that, and still could only get ~10k/sec tops. Also, mouse lag - even in the beta downloader - is HORRIBLE.

Finally found mirrors, installed from those files. Again, terribad mouse lag (I saw someone here said they disabled hardware mouse?). Beautiful opening cinematic, leading to my character running into a forest clearing, where I've seen a couple people fall from a smoking airship that streaked across the sky.

They're both unable to speak, so I run around and don't see that I'm able to do anything for them, don't see anything I can select or use on them. Try to leave the area, I'm teleported right back in front of them.

Clearly the game's trying to tell me I'm supposed to do something with them, and while normally I'd be intrigued by the mystery of how I can help them, I was just totally turned off by the 1+second mouse lag.

Uninstalled and here we are.

Same here. The beta was so, so bad, I had to cancel.

Cancelled my CE too.. may pick up the regular edition in a few months if it has improved at all.

I wonder if SOE has the sales data to see if their open beta is blowing up in their face.

15 minutes of playing beta and I felt like FFXIV was the worst mmo I've ever played.

20 years of playing video games and I've never wanted an in-game tutorial that badly. I had to alt tab and go to forums just to figure out how to talk to NPCs.

You must be new to MMOs. I don't remember any MMOs in the last few years that haven't had preorder benefits.
