So we just got back from a 16 day vacation in California and one of the things my wife and like to do while visiting places is purchase art pieces made by local artists. It can be anything from pottery, paintings, glassware, woodworking, ect.

So while visiting downtown Sonoma we popped into the local Sonoma Art Guild gallery. That's when we noticed a piece by local artist Katerina Capetanos titled Thea. It just memorized both us and drew us in. We could instantly envision it placed above the fireplace in the living room. We called the artist and spoke to her over the phone to see if she offered shipping because at 40"x30" the piece was way to large to fit into a carry on. Once she said that she offered shipping the deal was done; we knew we had to have it! haha

Anyway, here is a link to some of her work that is available to purchase and a pic of the one we bought titled Thea. I know the pic sucks and this isn't were it will eventually spend most of the time hanging but when it showed up today unexpectedly early I just had to share it with all of you.

Here's the link to her available pieces. https://www.capkatfineart.com/acrylic-pours-copy
This is the one we bought.

Thea

Nah, no NFT purchases for us although I did dabble in crypto back in 2016. At one time I had around 5 whole Bitcoin! haha Anyway, these days we just stick to physical works of art like this one, nothing digital for us.

I like it too. Not something I'd put on my wall, but I'd like seeing it on someone's wall.

that's pretty cool!

i have no artwork because i've only ever lived in apartments and i'm afraid to hang anything on the walls

but i would love some good abstract-ish landscape paintings someday if i ever buy a house

That is the beauty of art. Everyone sees it through their own lens. I see a flower on fire that is screaming for release. The layers of chlorophyl on fire reaching for an escape. Others see something different though. Art can inspire people to see things that they normally wouldn't and apply it in a way that can go beyond the original piece.

Being color blind I'm pretty much behind the 8 ball when it comes to hanging paintings on walls. I think it also torpedoed my attempt to develop a career in photography.

Now, my mother in her 90's took to abstract painting in her assisted living facility and created dozens of incredibly colorful mostly abstract oil paintings and I have most of them (a few were distributed to interested family members). I have one on my dining room wall. I like to think that Van Gogh would have liked her work in spite of its unprofessionalism. Her work was a riot of color that you don't find in nature anywhere. Being color blind, it looks different to me than someone with normal color vision, but it still looks incredibly poignant and colorful to me and for the most part there's nothing else going on to distract from that message.

That's a fundamental insight.

"The fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees. - William Blake

I think that sometimes when I am amazed at the beauty of a tree. Many people are incapable of seeing that beauty.

Right on man. This is so true. Everyone sees art through their own personal perspective. What they get out of it when they see it is always unique.

Wait...so you see a plant being tortured and you just had to have it. Don't you own a garden center? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THOSE POOR PLANTS??!!

How much did this cost?

on the website it looks like the one 30x40 costs 2700$

which, yeah, is a lot

but it something nice you can display for decades

(i think i've spent almost that much on ancient coins this year and i can't really show those off - need to get a nice display)

The expert said $2700 at auction on a good day, and you still have subtract a 20% auction fee from that number. So Im left with $2160.

Id rather sell it in my shop, but its going to sit until the right buyer comes along and makes an offer, so I take all the risk.

Ill give you $500 for it. I have to make a profit....

*turns around and sells it for $3,000*

lol, this is why i'm either selling all my ancient coins before i die, or giving them to any of the nephews if they want them

otherwise i'll leave instructions with the will on a good national auction house to ship them to, to sell them off at actual market price
