Sorry for your loss. I dread that day too, my Molly is a lab we've had for 11 years now, she was 1 when we got her. Starting to slow down quite a bit, enjoying every day with her while we can. She is actually my pillow when i sleep, she sleeps on my pillow, i lay my head on her, for 11 years now...

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how much of a bond we experience with our pets. From the smallest mouse, to the biggest dog I can never comprehend the bond that us as a human race have with our domestic pets. It's a blessing to have them in your life, and become part of your family, and we weep for them as if they are our blood relatives. They depend on us to do the right thing for them, and to keep them safe and happy. In my humble opinion OP, you did just that and then some. 15 years is a great life for a dog to live, and you did the #1 most un-selfish thing you could do for him. I promise he will be waiting for you on the other side, and you will pick up where you left off. Keep your chin held high, and be blessed just knowing that he was an important part of your family.

You are fortunate to have a vet that came to your house for a dignified last visit. There is nothing more heart wrenching than to have to carry your pet out to the car to drive over to the vets office for the ultimate goodbye.

Sorry OP, that time always sucks, I think I get more upset when it's time to have a pet put down then when a person dies. My wife is currently in the hospital with serious issues and the dog is the only thing in my life that's keeping me sane..

I feed my wifes wiener dog table scraps and chocolate all the time, and it will not die. What am I doing wrong? This thing is 15 years old, has 3 legs, almost blind, almost deaf,,,,,, but it wont die.

As hard as it is to do(I had to two months ago), the amount of joy and love they bring us when they're alive outweighs this sorrow 100x! It's ridiculous how hard it is to get through the first few days/weeks. But after a while, the sadness slightly fades and the good memories start flooding in.

You made the right choice, there's no use letting our friends suffer like that.

That's changing. Far too slowly sadly but there are lots of people out there who think like you/I do on this.
