Just replaced tie rod on my Intrepid, best to get a 2 or 4 wheel alignment?

As the title says, had a mucked up tie rod, got that all straightened out myself. Unfortunetly, without having a lift I'm having a hard time getting any decent alignment done and for what it costs I'm not super worried about it.

So, I only touched the front on it, is it worth getting a 4 wheel alignment on it? Its a '99 Intrepid, I've owned it 2 years and never had an alignment done, period.

Suggestions? Is taking it to Sears (I don't need an appointment there and would like it done tommorow) a horrible idea?

**edit** I meant is it worth getting a 4 wheel alignment over a 2 wheel alignment for an extra $20

**edit** whoops, wrong forum, sorry thought I was OT

hmm, is it because I didn't clarify? I meant specifically, should I get a 2 or a 4 wheel alignment

A member almost 5 years with nearly 2000 posts? I'm guessing someone didn't realize he's posting in Hot Deals.

Yeah, I caught it about 5 minutes ago... I just couldn't see how anything I said sounded silly

Anyways, mods, if you could lock or move this that would be fantastic, maybe get some real replies over there

98% of the places that do alignments don't know what they are doing, the box says turn this and they do it.

Deleted long rant.

Get your car aligned where you buy your tires, so if it messes up they have nobody else to blame. Two Wheel is fine unless the car doesn't track.

You know people wouldnt it be eaiser if you replied with something such as.....

"Sorry buddy you posted this in the wrong forum, but anyways Ill try to help you out.

You need to do.........."

Rather than being a complete ass and saying wrong forum, or In Before Lock (Which I belive is not allowed), Its easy to get caught up with things and have multiple tabs/windows open and accidentally post in the wrong forum.......
This forum is here for everyone to help each other out, and not be little brats trying to just increase their postcounts with useless posts. And Robor Im not directing this to you, as you realize that it was a mistake and souns like you understand that it happens to the best of us

So, intrepids have a bad rep? My father has one and the entire transmission system had to be replaced, fortuantely while under warranty. I thought it was just him.

Funny how the cheaper and/or used cars he's purchased have been better than stuff like the intrepid

Lets see... 2 years ago I bought my intrepid with 60k miles on it for $2000 (it's a '99, but with such an ignorant reply I doubt you have much in the way of reading comprehension).

In the two years I have owned it, I have changed the brakes, 1 rotor (which was my own fault, just didn't make the time to change the pads), and now this tie rod. total cost thus far: ~$100, all from standard replacement parts. Not bad at all.

I get 28mpg, have a roomy car, and it looks halfway decent to boot.

Personally I hate the blind spots on my fathers one. They are huge, you literally cannot see much backing up, or to change lanes. (and yeah I know all cars have them, they just are bigger than most in the intrepid he owns. I think its a 2002)

This is the one thing I hate, the blindspots caused by the overly thick metal that conects the roof to body makes seeing really tricky.

As for your transmission, the #1 complaint I hear about on these cars are window and transmission sensors burning out. If you catch it as that though it's dirt cheap and easy to fix.

I'd get the alignment.
The wife has a Dodge...a Grand Caravan. We've had tranny trouble as well as brake trouble out the wazoo. Part of the brake problem is under a recall. The part that caused the recall problem wasn't covered under the recall but I was told by one guy @ Chrysler it was. When I was ready to get it fixed, I called them again & was told he was mistaken in telling me that & that the part wasn't covered.
I'm done w/Chrysler products, personally, but i'm sure there are others out there that feel the same way about other makes & have good luck w/Chrysler products.

If the back is an IRS then it might be worth it.But since you just worked on the front it probably doesn't need it unless it was tracking wrong to begin with.

Actually our tranny problem was thought to be sensor by the local mechanic. But the dealer (it was covered under warranty so I dunno why my father took it to local guy first heh) had to replace the entire system, the tranny and some other stuff. $3000 job minimum if you have to pay for it.

Here's my contribution, looks like one of the only ones worth anything

I had a 93 Concorde, same as Intrepid, but different design than yours. I replaced a tie rod end and the tie rod bushings. Took it over to Sears and paid extra for the four wheel alignment: the rear two wheels didn't need aligning. If money isn't an issue, get the 4 wheel and just be done w/it. If you're pinching pennies, as long as no major damage/adjustments have happened to your rear wheels/suspension, you should be okay.

Also, the Sears guy told me that if it didn't need the alignment I wouldn't have to pay for it. I think I still paid for a 4 wheel even though they only adjusted 2 wheels, but see if you can get out of paying the full 4 wheel price on that technicality

Hope this helps
