just apply some direct pressure and hope that the blood clots. If it's still flowing smoothly in about 3 hours, it's time to consult medical help. Don't apply so much pressure to the area that you create a tourniquette for your lower leg, but enough pressure that it forces some clotting.

Ok, so you've made the knife, you're living in the woods and everythings sweet.

Well, now you have to build a campfire, heat the knifes blade up, and take it to the open wound.
