Didn't see a thread about this yet.

Caught Spidey over the weekend, and while it was better than the 1st one, it was another very "blah" movie from Sony. What kills me is it actually could have been good because they had some really interesting subplots going on, but their desire to sell toys won out over anything else.

For instance, the subplots were so good that the main villain, Electro, could have been removed from the movie and it would have been the same movie.

The dialog and acting was pretty hokey, even downright embarrassing, in some places...especially by some of the bad guys. The guy that played Rhino sounded like he was straight out of Batman Forever.

I'm going to recommend seeing it though because parts of it are good, and they actually did a great job of getting Spidey right: quick, wisecracking, strong, and it actually looked a bit more realistic than the last movie.

The reason there's no thread on it should be self-explanatory after watching it.

That's one of the reasons I don't go to movies anymore. So many of them are "meh" that I just don't feel like paying $20 for a couple, $30 with food, knowing it most likely going to end in disappointment. The other reasons are wasting my time driving to and from the theater and watching the stupid previews. Watching movies at home is just more enjoyable and I don't feel bad for wasting $20-30 on something meh.

I liked the action scenes, but yeah as a full movie it was lacking a bit. The electro action scenes were so good I think an Infamous movie using the same visual crew would look badass (Cole had the same electric power as Electro). Just don't use the same writers.

Other than eye candy it was nothing special.

I have only seen the final trailer so far, but i really like how spiderman used the sewer/manhole cover to block the projectiles and use it as a weapon.

I dream of the day when there will be a hard R comic book movie.

Fuck the kid demographic.

The Watchmen was rated R.

Spider-Man 2: Saw it on Thursday and it was okay. It really had far too much Peter Parker and not enough Spider-Man for me though. The best part of the movie was the X-Men trailer that happened before it, IMO.

Sin City
Watchmen
Kick Ass
Ghost World
Blade 1 & 2
300
The Crow

Or,.. are you speaking of a PG IP (like Spiderman) made into an R rated movie? Because Disney sure as hell won't allow that.

I liked it all the way up till the end. I hate what they did with the girl. Its so stupid that every super hero has live some isolated dark existence. I do think this guy is a way better Spiderman than Toby. Toby is still damn good, but this dude just brings a smoother flare to the character. It was a solid B+ till the end, now its just a b.

I think Toby is a better actor, but his skill set was not as compatible with the role as Garfield's. (I do hope they paid the boy more than $500k this time, this is a freakin' summer blockbuster Sony you cheap bastards.) I thought the film was overstuffed and less than the sum of it's parts because some of those parts were excellent. Jamie Foxx seems VERY out of place in the character he had to play, maybe it's just me. And the green goblin was kind of there and done like an afterthought which is kind of silly considering how much time his emo alterego is on screen. I'm talking 95% emo time and 5% blow up time here. :sneaky:

In any event,
I'm guessing Mary Jane is going to be in threequel. Gwen's end was handled well I think, but I saw it coming. I had a feeling when she got into Oxford and all these great things for her future starting happening. (Call it retiring-sheriff-gets-killed-on-his-final-job syndrome in cinema.) and when Spidey said he was going to England with her, I knew shit was about to go down. Spiderman not in New York? That just wasn't happening.

Casting Andrew Garfield as spiderman killed it for me. When I watched the first movie, I could only see him as the same character that appeared in Social Networks - the same twitches, same style of dialogue delivery.

They should have killed him off instead of Denis Leary...

MovieBob over at Escapist pretty much summed up my thoughts on the movie.

I didn't know it before but Sony is obligated to make a Spiderman movie at least every 10 years in order to keep their rights to it. The two movies in this series are about as uninspired as you can get.

I agree with Jamie Foxx. Very miscast, and Electro was nothing more than an excuse to show a big fight at the end of the movie. Also, the Goblin looked ridiculous, but the whole Harry Osborne subplot was really good. They should have just focused on that.

On, and Gwen's death....was a bit shocking. I knew she was going to die since the movie was following the comic books pretty closely, but I think the whole audience yelled AAAWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! in shock when they saw what happened to her. Didn't think they'd go that far.

I thought Jaime Foxx was fine. He was decent as the nerdy, Spider-man obsessed guy and as Electro he was good. The problem wasn't his portrayal of the character, but the character itself was just poor. It was throwaway villain of the week you'd expect to see in a Spider-Man series. They didn't even do much to set up anything epic though. All of the sudden: a wild Goblin appears! It uses "Clock Drop". It is super effective.

All of you are on drugs, or maybe need to be on drugs.

SM2 was awesome. It is probably the best spiderman movie ever made. This is the movie that needed to be made the first time around and not the 5th time around.

Visuals were stunning, music was amazing, acting was bland, Jamie Foxx was an awesome electro, mechanical Rhino was dumb move.

Spiderman 2 is the movie fans deserved a decade ago.

Spider-man opened higher than this one. Spider-man 3 opened way more than this one. I think fans preferred those.

Spiderman 3 was the absolute worst of the series.

Opening weeekends are not a measure of how good a movie is.

People in the movie business beg to differ. Spider-man 3 made $150 million it's opening weekend. Nearly 3x what The Amazing Spider-man made.

He probably meant a rated "R" comic book movie that didn't suck balls. Big blue ones.

Except, the Watchmen was easily better than any comic book movie out there. It is certainly better than EVERY Spider-man, Hulk, Thor, Blade, Captain America, and Batman movies.

You're one of the "omg a penis! why isn't that guy wearing pants after his clothes just got 'asploded!" mouth breathers who can't take mature content, I take it?
