a gentleman came up to me adamant on buying a single gpu system and spending $2000 on it so I got him this : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/uzMn

and oc'd the cpu to 4.8 ghz and the gpu to 1.35 ghz on 1.21 volts stable ! (don't ask about mems I can't remember for the life of me .)

He also gave me another grand to do something "out of the ordinary" so I got him one of these : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/uzuG coming in the mail soon I'll keep you posted

I think you could have done much better for $2000 (last generations CPU, not-so-great SSDs due to degradation and random write (I believe) issues, WAAAYYY too powerful of a PSU)... but the 1K build looks fun and unusual, even if it isn't exactly price/performance efficient. For the 1K build, I personally would probably try for some stupid color themed windowed-case build.

And how much do you gain for the configuration and assembly of the two systems?. Do you at least get enough for a large deluxe pizza and a 12 pack of import and a mainstream video game.

PSU is definitely over the top for BOTH builds. 500-600W from a reputable manufacturer would have been enough.

Just curious - why does anyone care? I must be missing something.

I hope these guys are paying you an assembly fee that you didn't mention. I love putting PCs together, but I would still expect to be paid for my time unless it was a family member.

last generations CPU,
I used the 2700k because the 3770k gets too hot when oc'ed and I didn't want to delid the ivb so I went with the 2700k plus it was cheaper and a 4.8ghz oc should perform the same as a 3770k at 4.5 ish except the 2700k is waaayyy cooler

The $2,000 build is a solid build.
With the NH-D14 cooling either the 2700 or the 3770 is about equal. Saving $40 if you do not need the extra features makes sense.
The 2700 overclocks higher, the 3770 matches it with lower clocks.
As far as I know Asrock Z77 Extreme4 is about the same price as the P67.
Possibly the P67 overclocks better?
The Seasonic is one of the "best of the best," whether needful or not, you would be spending $100-160 anyway. Most people insist 750 watts is a minimum.

On the $1000 build looks like fun, though I would have been tempted to do a BetFenix Prodigy mITX.
