Recently, the topic of global warming and the resulting effects to the climate have dominated news headlines. With these headlines has aslo come a resounding need to change our practices and become more 'green', in essence, to adapt to our changing environment in order to survive.

Now, as we all must adapt to survive, one question plagues me. All of these chemicals and carbon monoxide/dioxide or what have you, have all been emitted by western (more or less since the industrial revolution) industrialized nations. For example, I read an article recently that said one coal fired power plant in england produces as much carbon emissions as the bottom 100 industrialized nations combined per year. If we all must adapt to survive, then how are those bottom 100 industrialized nations supposed to adapt without proper infastructure or even food supplies? Meanwhile, the companies operating within industrialized nations, and even the nations themselves grow increasingly wealthier.

In the end what do you guys think should be the outcome? should wealthy nations (That are wealthy mainly due to the exploitation of many nations throughout history) be held accuountable (ex. reparations are due?)

Reparations for pollution? So we need to pay others money for advancing technology and making life better? Sounds like a wining plan, we should also pay anyone and everyone one who's ever had a relative who was a slave in their family tree money (only problem w/ that is no one would get money, it would all even out).

Yes, the 'news' would rather go on about the same old paranoia bullshit than discuss anything of substance. I've not turned on the TV for 8 months, bye bye fistfuck broadcast media.

If anything, poor nations should pay a cultural affiliation tax to be fortunate enough to live on the same planet as wealthy nations. But they have enough problems as it is so I wouldn't vote for this proposition, but I would propose taking away all foreign aid.

The outcome, if you must ask, should be to continue business as usual.

That is the most ignorant thing ive ever heard. Exploitation from the west (Europeans) has resulted in the existance of poor nations through systems of systematic exploitation of people, land and resources.

Edit: and for the record, your news is not my news. i have spent the last year living in europe, where Actual news is shown, and not just paris/britney bs.

Yea, Europe just gets all the dead Diana and almost dead Prince Charles news, instead. You are obviously far more refined than we could ever hope to be.

No, that is the most controversial thing you've ever heard.

That's a good excuse, but no. Africa, for example, was dirt poor before European contact, was dirt poor during European occupation, and is dirt poor post emancipation. Never have European nations caused poverty on the continent, the poverty was always there. On the contrary, the only parts of Africa that are urbanized and offer at least a decent quality of life are those that have had historical contact to Europe.

I take offense to the repeated use of the phrase "western industrialized nations" when China is the worst polluter.

To the OP: You are obviously too young to remember the paranoia during the 1960's and 1970's over global cooling. We were all going to freeze to death just 40 years ago and now we are all going to roast.

Get a life, get an education and do some independent research. Much of the global wraming BS is coming from those who stand to profit handsomely from the paranoia. If Al Gore was really concerned about global warming wouldn't he reduce his carbon footprint rather than just offsetting it by buying carbon credits and continuing to reap huge profits from his scare tactics?

Leading scientists claim that even if we completely stopped using all carbon based energy sources immediately, we cannot stop 'global warming'.
So why even bother?

You should bother because it's feel good politics.
