Cheap ram will not run quality games.

you are dead wrong.

Half-Life2 ? You need quality Ram, dont sell this game short.

you're missing the point.. there is a difference between CHEAP ram and Low-Quality ram.

all ram from places like Kingston, Corsair, Crucial... ALL of it is good ram. what you DONT want is joe-blow housebrand ram.. the low timings arent vital to anything, and as proven statistically the only thing the high-end ram is going to do for you involves programs like Sandra (so you can show off how awesome it is) and Winrar (so you can unzip/rar/whatever)

No, I was just making fun of the OP's statement.

I mean, he bought two 512 memory modules for $330.00, and states that Half Life 2 needs great ram.

Any name brand ram would work fine, and I sure as hell would buy two sticks of 512 Mb DDR ram for $140.00 not $330.00.

He got raped on his computer. Well, Monarch didn't rape him, he actually has become the first person to figure out a way to rape himself.

I mean a SLI board, 6800Gt card, and a 80 Gb hard drive? A cd burner/dvd reader for $60.00? Plus an additional $7.00 for the burner software? Plus another $7.00 for the DVD software? $74.00 for a CD burner....wow.

No, but when you post here a sytem that you are going to buy/have bought and you have made some questionable decisions, don's start attacking people who say you are paying too much.

If I was a noob, and felt the need to post a "look at me...look at what I am buying" thread, I would hope somebody would tell me I was making a bad choice.

I wouldn't say "Half Life needs it dude, you don't know what you talking about Willis".

some of us were just pointing out the ways he could have saved money...which is what the OP asked for basically by putting up his computer and how much he paid. Others have turned it into a flame war.

We don't care that he overpaid (hell I got my 3200+ for $230!)... It is that he is just being a little stubborn about it and spreading WRONG information.

Sure, the $330 RAM will perform better, $190 better, no, but a 'bit' better. If he has no family, friends, girlfriend to blow money on, he might as well spend it on himself...

It's not the fact he overpaid for the ram.

It is he felt the need to come here and post. He obiviously wanted comments if he made a thread. Every comment here can't just be "Way to go guy, You are the man, Great choices!" Sometimes the truth hurts. Sometimes you just gotta tell the parents that is one ugly baby.

This was his first thread/post under this current username.

He gets defensive when people ask questions on why he decided to buy certain items. It really opened up for him with the "you have no money" comment and "cheap ram won't run quality games".

Anytime you post anything here and then show attitude, you are going to get attacked.....especially if you are brand new.

Not a bad price, for a pre-built. Monarch does a few things I don't like, though.. like making you pay $8 for nero, and another $8 for Power DVD, when it comes with the lite-on cdrw/dvd-rom drive. So thats $76 for a $40 drive. Also, kids, notice it includes a legal copy of windows XP, which most of your systems dont have

I actually spec'ed out a system similar to that for $1600... i like mine better. Athlon 64 3400+ DTR, 1.5gb of DDR, 6800GT, 250gb hdd, DVD burner, etc. in an SFF system. with a 17" 16ms response lcd.

Yours also has a 17" LCD, 1.5 Gb of ram, DVD burner, and a 250 Gb hard drive.

Plus you are paying a little extra since it is a SFF system.

Nice system though

Why do people feel the need to rip someone for letting someone else build their rig?

If you mean me, I was just saying it was over priced. It was his money, and his choice, and he didn't do too bad. I mean, people do buy components at Best Buy and Compusa, and we would just laugh at them.

I thought everyone went to best buy for their computer stuff?!?!? Man all that knowledge they have!!

I actually went to Fry's 2 weekends ago, looking at monitors and some kid was helping me.. i looked around and found a kid who looked like a total nerd... he was so much more helpful!! don't buy that monitor.. you can get this one cheaper and does this and that.... lol....

If he got a deal on the pre-built no one would rip on him... that's a good rig, don't get me wrong. It's just not $1800 good... it's about $1200 good.

Ok im back from work, some of you are having fun ripping my system. I am sure i could have done it cheaper, but its still a better rig than the average pre-assembled crap from Dell or HP.

Plus, its not an outrageously priced alienware type rig with the green and blue cases with side windows.

Im not an expert, but i think i did ok. Actually to tell you all the truth, i pretty much took the advice of this website.

I'm not sure about $500, but it does seem to be a bit expensive.

$500 easy. its almost $200 on the RAM alone

plus he spent about $170 on a case and PSU?

he could have easily knocked off another $50 with a 6800GT

a $60 cd burner-dvd player? he could have gotten a DVD burner for that price

$275 for a CPU??? he could have gotten a 3200 for $100 less and would have never noticed a difference, and he could have easily overclocked it to 3500 speeds.

and i dont even want to pick through the rest
