Just started playing WoW.

Yeah talk about being late to the game just picked up the game last week and started playing 3 days ago. I can see why it's a phenomenal money maker for Blizzard. From what I have played so far 0.0000001% of the game it's very addictive sure but actually rather surprisingly boring in many ways. I guess the guys at blizzard have mastered the ability of making that carrot they dangle in front of you just barely tasty enough to keep you slogging through just yet another quest. It's always just one more....

Quit now. Honestly, don't waste your life with a game that will only become a greater grindfest later on. If you think some of the beginning levels are boring, wait until you hit the 50's and level 70.

Yeah I probably should. Question is will I?

You'd save a lot of money and time is all I'm saying . But if it's fun for you then I guess go right on ahead. WoW had me hooked for a pretty long while (was my first real MMO).

i think the consideration to quit should be divided according to age segments:

0-10: sure, play, why not? but dont neglect school and friends.

11-15: play, show off and pwn those friends you made at the previous age segment.

16-20: WARNING - prolonged exposure may include the following symptoms: lower grades, loss of social skills, inability to lose virginity, loss of job. use at your own discretion.

21-30: play, but dont tell anyone you do. make sure to have completed this task list prior to starting: graduated from higher education, had sex, got a job (hurray for priorities!)

31+: its legitimate to play WoW with your children. dont get too into it though.

i played for 3 months at age 18 and suffered a few of the symptoms

It can be fun, especially if you play with friends. I would recommend you don't play just for the sake of having something to do.
Strange as it may sound, since WoW can snowball into something much more consuming than many other games, you should ask yourself what you want to get out of it. If you plan on just having an RPG to have fun with, then set some time limits for yourself otherwise you'll find yourself justifying 3hr instance runs, then 4, then 6, etc. until it gets out of hand. If you want to make it a full time commitment then at least play efficiently and find a good guild or group of friends to make the most of it.
Most importantly though, make sure to regularly ask yourself if it's actually fun and if you're enjoying your time more than other types of games. Its easy to get so involved you forget that, and its actually why there are many long term players.
I played WoW for about a year and a half before I realized I absolutely hated raids and there was nothing else to do, so I just stopped playing that day and never looked at it again. I can back a year later for a couple days to play a friend's character to see if it was still fun, and it wasn't. Have fun, and don't take the game too seriously

Personally hated the game, was so boring. >_> I was extremely pissed when I found out enchanters were cut off at 275 level limit when I didn't have the expansion. I was like, "Oh, so I have to pour more money into this game to just be better? Well.. Fuck this game." Also, it was REALLY BORING. I got to 39 and I had over a thousand kills in PvP... PvP was the only thing I played really. Anyway, don't play the game. It sucks, I hated it. PvP sucks because you get killed by twinks and shit, it's so stupid and imba.

My cousin quit college and pretty much became a looser after playing WOW every day of the week for many years. He is working now at an internet cafe since like 4 years ago, on a crappy salary just to play this stupid game all the time. I've seen people being addicted to alcohol and drugs, but his addiction for this game is even worse. He pretty much lost the interest for the real world and believe me, he was such an intelligent and pleasant person. Neither me, or all his friends and family have managed to take him away from this stupid game. It consumed him and it continues to take him even further down.

Take my advice, if you really, really like MMOs then you're probably going to love this one and it's dangerous. I'm not saying that every WOW player out there will loose himself into this game, but some are inclined to do it. If you start to refuse going out and meet your friends just to play WOW a bit more, then, it's time to quit. Don't let the game control you.

If you enjoy playing it then play it. If you do not enjoy playing then quit. Is there really anything else to discuss here?

Time management and moderation are assets in life which everyone should already have anyways so I see no reason to bring that into discussion. Not being able to control addictions are characteristics of the weak.

PVPing at low levels is a complete waste of time. I believe around 40-49 and 50-59 you won't see as many twinks so it's a tad bit more bearable. But essentially, you have to twink to even survive; however, there are those few moments where your class versus theirs and their own incompetence simply gives you a really amusing situation.

I was in AB at level 29 I believe and just as you'd guess, it was twink central (19 and 29 tend to be). Well, I was guarding the Stables ('cause you know, we gotta have Stables!) and this twink rogue appeared. Now, I think he got caught in my trap or something (yay for using Shadowmeld) and from that point, I literally kited him around the stables until he died. Showed his complete and utter incompetence as a player.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention I was on my hunter.

Maybe you should balance it like this:

For every hour playing WoW, you will spend an equal amount of time reading good literature.

I've been WoW-free for about 2-3 months now, after being a subscriber since launch. I figured that by now I'd be chomping at the bit to reactivate my account, but I can happily say I'm done with that chapter of my life. Even all of the expansion footage isn't enticing me in any way.

I think WoW can be a great game for people who can safely play it casually, where they just sit down for a few hours a week to play with friends. But I'm an extremely competitive gamer, and tried to do everything I could within the game. And that's when it becomes way more like work than a game. Raiding and PvP can consume entire months of your life before you even blink.

BAM!!!

If you're the competitive sort - don't play WoW. There's always that extra level, that weapon that'll make you better, that ____ that'll make you uber ...

I find myself getting dragged into WoW all the time - but then I remember that I have a preg. gf, a full time job and part time MBA classes - so it's time to /logout

Wow, people talk about WoW like they talk about cigarettes, WoW is not a good game, not a single MMORPG is, as for your age segments discussion Borealis7, I would NEVER let a kids under 10 years old play a game like WoW, they really have much better things to do (and much better games to play) at that age. Don't you guys get tired of needing to spend 200 hours just to get a level 70 character? Go play action RPGs instead, in Diablo II, for example, by the time you finish Nightmare (with minimal grinding, just beating the regular quests) you can have a level 60 character and you can play in parties with friends for the social aspect.

Why do people like RPGs with NO story, no INVOLVEMENT, PURE grinding and that requires endless amounts of time, I know I shouldn't be judging people's tastes in videogames but seriously this whole MMORPG thing is something that I just can't understand, the only explanation I can find is the addiction aspect.

Only fun if you have people to play with. I'm talking about people you know in RL, not crazy people in game. If you play solo, you might as well not buy the game.

For the social aspect. It's like playing soccer. But the opposing team are zombies. And you have shotguns. But before you play you have to run to the store to get ammo first.

I HATE playing games by myself. I like games with a dynamic, ever changing world that is based upon meeting random people and seeing what they will do (world pvp, trade, etc.)

D2 is boring becuase it has none of this.. its the same storyline over and over. I'm tired of WoW but atleast its more dynamic.

There is a very simple answer to your confusion. We play because we are having fun. I really enjoy WoW.

To address your other issues:

- There is a good story attached to it which you can choose to basically skip if you wish but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is there.
- I don't know what you mean by no involvement. I always feel involved when I play.
- I do not feel that it is pure grinding nor am I spending endless amounts of time playing.

I think one of the most confusing aspects with your post is that you are down with games like D2 yet it blows your mind that people enjoy WoW. D2 felt like much more of a grind than WoW ever has for me. I like them both though.
