I've never been a runner, and actually the last time I ran was probably junior high/high school (pathetic, huh).. well, I'm trying to get myself into shape by running and I've run into the same problems. Shin splints to begin with.. although I've been running on a treadmill now and it helps (or it could be the shoes I'm now wearing)... Still have trouble with speed and stamina, but I try not to push myself... I can only jog/run/walk a mile at a time, but hopefully I'll start to improve the more I keep running. The hardest part though, is just going out and actually doing it. My ipod sure helps though or else running would be so boring....
