So I finally got fed up with paying $90 a month for 900 channels I never watch, and switched back to basic cable, and bought a netflix subscription.

Total cost = $15/month for cable, $14/month for netflix = $29

Also downgraded my internet speed since my wife and I don't really use it much anymore.. mostly just surfing the web...

I didn't really need to, but I hate comcast with a passion, and was tired of giving them more of my money than necessary.

Does anyone know if college football games that are broadcast nationally on ESPN are shown locally on ABC?

Your basic cable doesn't include ESPN? Or are you getting just local channels? I guess ESPN is in my 'expanded basic' tier actually now that i think about it.

I used to hate comcast too, until I spent some time with some TRULY awful ISPs. I'm not sure if you'd call it respect for comcast, but I don't find them nearly as awful as I used to now that I know how bad things could really be.

Pretty much just the locals + tbs, discovery, and one or two other channels.

I'm hoping that the Penn State games being shown on ESPN are also shown locally on ABC. If not, i'll just swing down the street to a bar and watch them.

I should be good for steelers games. The only thing i'm really gonna miss out on are Penguins games. I'll have to find a way to watch them online.

Comcast doesn't advertise their truly basic cable. "Digital Starter" is the lowest that they advertise and it's also $29/mo as an introductory rate and jumps to $60 or something after a few months.

But if you talk to someone online or call them, you can ask for "basic cable" which is $13/mo or something. That gets you broadcast channels and a few extras like TBS, CNN, and a bunch of crappy public access channels. It's mostly just if you get bad reception with an antenna.

Funny thing, though. Since it doesn't require a cable box, you get all the broadcast channels in HD!

Basic cable and standard internet (12Mbps) for me is $47.xx/month.

I'd get rid of the TV cable completely if it didn't jack my internet cost up to $59.95/month. Retarded cable companies.

I can't do that because I like baseball too much

MLB.tv. Watch every game on your PC and you can even choose which broadcast to watch. Stream through your PS3 as well, if you have one. I am a baseball nut and thought I'd die without HD Extra Innings...I don't miss it one bit with MLB.tv.

I downgraded when the 12 month deal was up. It went from $85 to $140! I almost choked on my coffee when I read that.

Comcast:
Internet $45+$3 modem lease, 12Mbps/2.5Mbps
Basic Cable, 13 channels $13

Grand total= $64 after taxes

Comcast told me no HD, both my TV's pick up a few extra HD channels

I wish I could get just "Basic" basic cable here. The lowest package for me is $47/mo and is what is known as "Expanded Basic".

There are quite a few college football games on the weekend, depending on where you live will probably deterime who you see play

I couldn't go more than two days without HD. Unless you get all HD with basic cable? Then you're very smart.

Call them up. Most are required to have a Basic BASIC setup. It will be like 15-20 channels mostly local (ABC, NBC, etc...) and basic ones.

They have it they just don;t advertise it or its in the fine print at the bottom no one reads.

Bah Time Warner's cheapest cable is $30 to add on to my internet. I'd jump on $15 though.

I'm not sure, i've never tried it before. We had a 3 month blockbuster online gift subscription and we just mailed the discs back and forth.

Probably won't miss out on too much if you don't use netflix for the streaming. I have a bluray player that has netflix streaming built in, and I hardly use it, their streaming selection is really bad IMO.

Actual basic cable (the <$20 kind that is mainly used for reception, not extra channels) is in HD, at least for me. The few extra channels that you can't get OTA (CNN, TBS, and some local ones) aren't in HD, but the major stations are.

I don't really need more than CBS, ABC, FOX, and NBC. The only thing I really use TV for is watching football games. I do miss out on NFL Network Thursday night games and non-local Monday Night Football, but that's not worth the extra cash you have to lay out to get those channels. The most basic package with ESPN so I can watch MNF is $30/mo introductory and $60/mo after six months. For 3-4 extra games per month. Like I said, not worth it.
