I just gave Cablevision the finger and switched to FIOS tv completing my 3-package deal (tv/internet/phone) with Verizon for $95/mo. Been very satisfied with FIOS internet (20/5) so it was a pretty easy decision. And I'm saving $60/mo. by doing this too. Cable alone was $86/mo. - ridiculous, isn't it? God I hated Cablevision ever since the Internet capping fiasco and the only reason I stayed with their tv was because FIOS doesn't offer NHL Center Ice but I'll deal with it (paid online streaming ftw).

Install is Wednesday - any other FIOS tv subscribers out there? I'm hearing nothing but good things with the service. With all that savings, I'm actually gaining Showtime, TMC, and Flix, but losing HBO (no big loss). I love how Verizon is sticking it to local cable companies.

EDIT>> For those who care, Cablevision retention was going to give me $16/mo. off for a year for the package I had. Not too bad for those wanting some relief - give them a call and threaten.

Since we are on the topic, I am always seeing announcements on Engadget about FIOS TV expanding to ______. They never directly mention that FIOS internet is also available in these areas. Is it correct to assume that the internet service is available too?

we love our fios triple play thing (tv/intertubes/phone). we have 2 DVRs so the monthly is somewhere around $120. we have had no complaints about the service. the tech was very nice too and showed up exactly at the time they quoted. i tried to tip him but he gave back the money telling me he was a union guy and that it was unnecessary. also, he gave us a couple of nice cable splitters.

we don't have any pay movie channels, but we have one of the basic hd packages which comes with HDNet and UniversalHD, both of which show movies and HDNet is unedited as far as i can tell (nudity, profanity, violence, oh my!). the hd channels look incredible on our HDTVs.

the only downside is that there was a $100 rebate and they kept giving us the run-around saying "oh yes we sent the check already". in the end they gave us a $100 credit off one of our monthly bills. otherwise, their customer service has been good too.

EDIT: our DVRs are HD-DVRs. Lost in HD ftw!

I'm waiting for FIOS to be offered where I live. Until then I'm stuck with DSL and my antenna, because I refuse to pay comcast another dime.

I'm not 100% sure but it would dictate that they are running on the same fiber to your house so one would go with the other.

Sounds good... I guess the only downside would be the requirement of a $5 standard box for another tv we have upstairs. Currently with cable you just plug it right into the coax and still get most of the channels.

Had it for a 2 weeks...my laptop would constantly lose the wireless signal from the router they provided. Had them change it out. Still did the same thing. They f'd up the account by trying to charging me the more than the quoted price. Told them to pick there shit up and get it out of my house...switched back to cablevision...back on the $99 for all 3 services for a year...

HD feed look awesome ...and the internet connection when it worked was fast...

just out of curiosity, do you remember if you had any 802.11b devices on your wireless network?

after fiddling with the settings on the router i found that i had better results when the network was configured as only 802.11g devices instead of mixed.

I wonder which router you had? We were losing connection daily and had our router switch and haven't had any downtime since. The old router we had was a bricked shaped old Actiontec router.

Have my Actiontec (slim version) set to mixed and have had no problems with wireless.

I love how they keep advertising FIOS in my aprtment complex, but when I try to order, they say it i snot available. I asked the people downstairs and they said they Verizon has been "installing" FIOS in my apartment complex for the past 2 years. The apartment complex down the street got theirs a year ago. Everyone in my complex has the fiber stuff installed....we just don't have a connection

Cablevision here in NJ is getting rid of about 10 channels from the normal lineup, and the only way to get it is get digital cable and this premium subscription package. These arent premium channels, they are like TLC, CSPAN, and a few other "normal" channels. Basicly we are going to be paying the same ammount and getting less. Fios was installed on our street but is not yet available. I hope it comes out soon, I know that those channels are offered in the normal Fios package. Cablevision ==

Good luck - after you see trucks on your street and they throw the wires up, it can still take 2 months to light them up. Hope for you it's sooner. The wait is agonizing when the box is out in your backyard teasing you.

Damn 2 months! They have been running fiber in my area, and got me all excited.

doesn't matter which one you have, both are hte same, just different covers.

as to wireless issues, the actiontec router isn't the best on the market but it isn't bad, and frankly the demands on it are pretty high. anyway, as to the wireless, the best thing to do is, to run a utility that tells you which channels the other Wireless networks in your area are on and then choose a channel that is different from the others. the actiontec router seems to not be able to negotiate channel changes well.

We just had FiOS installed Tuesday. Love it so far...one drawback when compared to cable is that tvs without a box on them no longer get any channels. Internet is nice and quick...free sports + movie pack until 2009 too

It's not 95 a month, it's much more. How much is it after taxes? It's the only reason i havent moved away from cable at home. I would love it at work though to replace the dsl

i really do want to switch to fios but truth be told i dont do much and web browsing is all the same with any connection > dial up. But the issue with fiber optic network verizon has is that you have to have a cable box for every TV in your house. They lend it out to you at 5 extra dollar per TV so if you have 5 TV, (minus one free on the basic plan), then its going to add to the cost. But otherwise, their internet is fast. If only they offered GSM phone, then i'd gladly go with them for home phone + cell phone + TV + Internet. It would be a complete package.
