great deal I picked up one for me, and my friend got one as well. Giving my puter to my brother so this will serve as a nice cheap replacement since I'm not looking for more power Will also serve as a great upgrade to a friend with a underclocked 2100+AXP @ 1.3Ghz since the ram couldn't run @ 133 :x

Motherboard is ECS K8M890-M

As always, most likely not an overclocker...but every ECS board I've had runs like a champ all the way back to the venerable K7S5A pro

Anyways heads for everyone!

edit:

btw you can get a 4800+ retail and ECS nforce4M-A mobo for 139.99

Was this a retail box CPU or an OEM? I saw the ad in the Fry's Friday ad and I didn't see a picture of the retail box. If the pic isn't there, it usually means it's an OEM CPU from the tray.

Looks to be B&M only - the sale started Friday, and ends tomorrow (5/15). Here's a link to the OC Register Fry's Ads:

The mobo/CPU combo is on Page 6.

Can anyone comment on this board? I'm ready to build a new machine and I'm wondering if this is really a deal I should jump on.

most of the ECS fry's combo boards are basically the cheapest around that still have the bare minimum of features.

Basically if your an enthusiast overclocker then there's no way you would ever get this board but if you're a casual user or gamer then this board should suit you just fine if your on a budget.

Got this combo when they had it a few weeks ago. Also grabbed the craptastic 8600gt at CC for $129 AR to go with it. Great value gaming system. I was playing Oblivion with everything cranked to max @ 1680 X 1050 (no AA) and it was running great! That was until I hit a a particular outdoor area with lots of fighting, and it finally choked... But that was the rare exception.

I still love it. A decently powered system for under $400!

$99 cpu/mobo
$100 2GB Corsair XMS
$129 8600GT
$0 (FAR) Ultra Wizard case
$0 (FAR) Ultra 500W PS
Cheapo fans, optical, and HD recycled from other systems!

I'm surprised you're able to run Oblivion that well. My e6600+x1950pro usually runs it at 1680x1050 with like half settings and even then it's only like 40fps. Is the 8600gt supposed to be particularly good with Oblivion or something?

The benchmarks don't say so, but it's much better than my old 6800OC and AMD 3700+. I'm happy enough with it. And I'm a hardcore gamer, on a budget...

Are they the new 65nm Brisbane core? With this crazy prices it's hard not to upgrade from single core.

I picked up the 4800+ deal. Yes, the 4800+ is a Brisbane. I haven't put the system together yet, but I liked the full-sized nForce4 ATX board with this deal better than the microATX VIA 890 board deal. Plus, the 4800+ processor was boxed where the 4400+ processor was bare.

What?????

The boxed 4800+ is $129.99 at Newegg, so basically you are getting the motherboard for $10. Not only do you get the hsf, but the CPU has a 3-year warranty. Plus, the motherboard has more features than the one advertised with the 4400+.

Sounds like AkumaX is agreeing with you.

Those that opt for the $99 combo will have to fork up extra for a hs/f. Assuming the hs/f costs $20, then for $20 more, you can go up to the 4800+ and a (probably) better board.

Thanks for explaining the comment from AkumaX. I wasn't sure what to make of it.

Yeah, that's what i meant; $119 for 4400+ oem + oem hsf + board, or $139 for 4800+ retail + board.

I'm used to the way Fry's works, so sometimes things might not come out clearly
