Just took out my GF3 Ti 500 and put in my Radeon 8500 and all I can say is WOW!

In my personal experiences, my ATI cards have worked fine. My old Radeon 32mb even looks better than my current Ti200. My nVidia cards work for a while and then die. I just purchased a Gainward GF3 Ti200 a few weeks ago and it's been the worst video card experience I've had. It barely works. My display is totally malformed and it's not a driver problem because the display is all screwed up right from the bootup. Gainward support isn't actually great either.

Oh well.. just my personal experiences with the two brands.

Razzer,
How much $$$ do you want for your used GF3 Ti500? What "brand" card? I am definitiely interested in purchasing it.
TIA,

<< All my game run great no problems at all. So if you are one of thoughs people wanting to try a Radeon card, al I have to say is do it. >>

I'm totally with you. I swapped out my gf for an 8500 on Christmas, the difference in visual quality is amazing and the frame rates are still very acceptable. And while the drivers are still young, I haven't had a single problem with ANY of my games which include: Max Payne, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, Battle Realms, Operation Flashpoint, Counter-Strike, and Wolfenstein. BTW, my 8500 is OEM and only cost $190, a HUGE bargain! Radeon rocks!

I had both cards for a while and I returned the Radeon 8500 (Retail). I had problems with several games running in full screen mode (Half Life, Quake II...). I even reinstalled windows...Popped the Ti500 back in and all is better.

NOW, This is a thread that just invites Nvidia fanboy flaming.

Evidently the very latest reviews are putting the latest Radeon driver versions right up there with the GF3TI500 in terms of performance.

<< Here's a quote from CPU, Januray 2002 edition in an article called, "Time for Winter Graphics," written by none other than, "Anand Lal Shimpi."

<< Unfortuantly when push came to shove, the Radeon 8500 was barely able to compete with NVIDIA's low-to-mid range GeForce3 Ti 200 >>

Perhaps you just had a VERY CRAPPY GF3 Ti 500.

It sounds like they never rebenched the card with the newest drivers. There are a few sites that have done so, and the 8500 beats the geforce 3 ti500 in some of the benches, and is only behind a few fps in others except UT, the 8500 still gets it's butt kicked there.

What's with the nvidiots? "I'll stick with my excellent drivers thank you very much?".

I doubt he posted just to start a flame war.

Sheesh, I thought this forum had it's share of Nvidia vs. <video card company here>

I guess not.

colors are much more vived

I assume you adjusted the digital vibrance control on your nVidia boards?

and I scored 8994 in 3DMARKS 2001 that is 800 more than my overclocked GF3 Ti.

And?

i am a happy owner of an ATI radeon 8500 :Q

though i cant say that i have owned a GF3

i have owned a GF2, GF2Pro and even used a GF2 MX for awhile

this was my first ATI card and i was pleasantly surprised since it was not nearly as bad as you guys make it out to me

maybe its because i didnt get mine from dell till Dec 10 and by then the 3286 drivers were already out

i am not gonna say it was trouble free nonetheless i am very satisfied with this product

I can't believe some of you. A guy creates this thread to share the good experience he has had with a card, and the first thing any of you is start bashing him, then you act sarcastic and basically dismiss any positive points he had to share. I almost couldn't believe it.

Some of you people are so damn closed-minded, it defies logic.

BTW, I own neither a GF3 or a Radeon 8500 so my opinion is neutral.

MrTux, yep, that's the nature of the anonymous internet. Pretty pathetic isn't it? Just laugh at them like I do and hope they don't reproduce.

DIGITAL VIBRANCE really helps the color saturation on NVidia cards. That washed out look goes away on the medium setting. Also, Linux support from NVidia is FAR superior to ATI's. Now I wish Creative would follow with an Audigy driver for Linux.

Well I am just glad that I know of a computer forum where I can share my views without being struck down.

Very hard to believe that someone would buy the most expensive video card for a home PC them wow he just goes out and buys the other contender for most expensive video card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much money, no brain....probably buys pentiums and upsizes his drinks at the all you can drink machine too.
But seriously are there motherboards with 2 AGP slots now? Cause my Epox board only has one, so I just got the one video card.
Still trying to decide if I should buy a Pentium 2 gig to go with my Athlon XP cause I just got too much money..........
got my lotto ticket........

That guy must have some serious extra cash lying around to be able to buy one great card after another. Instead of making fun of him, maybe you all should be doing the opposite. A guy that can blow $500-600 on video cards in his spare time must be doing something right

Anyways, I just bought an OEM 8500 for $149. (was a return).

I went from an Nvidia TNT 1....to Geforce 2.................and for a change bought from ATI.

I wish I could share his excitement, but, to be honest, I can't see much difference from my Geforce2. If I notice ANY difference (besides the speed from my Geforce 2, I would say it seems a bit brighter.

But as a whole, I don't notice a heck of a lot of difference.

I think a lot of what people say about the Nvidia or ATI cards these days is a bunch of hype. Neither card is THAT much different from the other.

In these days of mass commercialism, there is just WAY too much hype out there.

Basically, just do what i did. Go for the best deal you can find.

Yeah.. people used to call it fascism. How bout' we wake up and think about what's actually important in life. I don't see why it's such a big deal that he likes one product over another, is anyone forcing you to buy it?

I have a Radeon 8500 - everything works and looks great, except FS 2002 I have some visual errors.

Flaming the original poster's spelling is a sure sign of desperation.

Hell, attacking spelling went out with the 5th grade. Grow up. Debate his findings not his spelling if you want anyone to take you seriously.

Razzer likes his Radeon 8500. Big deal. All he did was give his opinion Without Flames and you guys begin flamming over something that is more visual than statistical.

He didn't say the t500 sucks or anything really off the wall. All he said was that he liked it better than his T500 PERIOD.

You guys need to grow the hell up.

I love my t500 and wouldn't trade it for the radeon 8500 for anything because I dont trust the drivers but thats just me.

I could see you attacking Razzer IF he had flammed his old t500 but he DIDNT.

hmmmmm........ such an interesting thread first off congrats on ur new 8500 i'v been reading bout them lately and looking at the demo vids pretty freaking sweet ... as for my choice between ATI Vs Nividiot..uhm Nvidia typo hehe... i will choose ATI when i replace my current card (voodoo 5 5500 AGP) in 4- 6 months.. give ya three guesses as to why but back to a slightly more serious note.... id o feel that both cards are bout equal... i mean ok so one does 120 and the other 110 FPS in a game.. will you really notice the difference??? heck not to long ago 30 FPS was like OMG ITS SOOO AMAZING.... so in my opion its like this... if FPS is everything just to say u get that extra FPS do what ya gota do.. if your loyal to a brand over another stick with your brand.... or if your like a lot people and looking for the most bang for your buck do that.... my only true fear is that Nividia or ATI would some how buy out the other leaving only one company.... i tend to like the compition between the compines

Eloric

PS. two roomates 4 GF cards... none that work.... (had to say it couldn't resist)
