Just upgraded to Firefox 1.5 - It won't open!!

I was cruising around Mozilla's website looking for a Windows Mobile browser and I decided to upgrade from 1.0.7 to 1.5.

After running the install app, I tried to open it (left the check box on "Run Firefox now"), and my computer just doesn't seem to want to run the program. The hard disk spins and reads for a couple seconds, but nothing pops up.

Firefox is also nowhere to be found on the Task Manager.

I un-installed/re-installed, rebooted, tried Firefox's Safe Mode, everything!

What is going on with 1.5? Can I get 1.0.7 back?

Did you try moving/deleting your profile?

No. Does that mean just deleting the Firefox folder?

move the folder from c:\documents and settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\RANDOM TEXT.default to your desktop. Start Firefox. It will automatically create a new folder underneath profiles. Copy your bookmarks.html and cookies.txt into the new folder, download all of your extensions and themes again and you are golden.

Did all of this...didn't work. Firefox still does not open.

Tried another uninstall/reinstall. Still nothing. What the hell is wrong with this release and my computer?

That's a good question. How about trying it from the command line and seeing if you get any use(ful|less) messages and how long the process actually runs for?

Huh. That's just bizarre. Are you running any sort of firewall/anti-virus that might prevent unknown/changed applications from loading without prior approval?

I had pretty much the same experience a while back when attempting to go with the new version, and even assuming there's a simple workaround it shouldn't be happening to a lot of users (and it is). Just one of several reported problems that made me just go back to my old version for now and wait.

I think firefox gets super unhappy when you try and install new versions on top of existing ones.

My problem was solved by uninstalling firefox, deleting my profile, deleting the firefox folder, rebooting and re-installing.

I still love firefox though

I made a copy of the profile directory and then deleted it. Then deleted the firefox directory in program files and then reinstalled fresh. That fixed mine.

I was then able to copy the old profile directory back.

I have installed FF plenty of times, to include uninstalling first, and clearing out cached profiles, etc. I'm not bashing FF, but it simply aint my fault that 1.5 failed me.
