Nice. I should do the same to my 1999 Passat 1.8T one of these days. I also need to chip it....have you chipped yours?

chipped before i received it. apparently it's a rather crappy chip, but the car has a little more go than usual

thread hijack :

question:
on a leased passat, that goes back in 5 months, do you think the vw dealer would be mad if it was de-badged
?

(just the passat logo)

my guess is as long as it's there when you return it, you'll be fine. but you'd probably be better off asking at vwvortex.com or the likes

2500rpm random orbital buffer. it worked way better than hand buffing.

for waxing i used those cotton wax applicator pads. first layer was Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax followed by Mother's Carbarana (sp?) Clean Wax (comes with the Mother's Claybar Kit)

You should be able to dewax by hand

Looks a little flat to me...I'd try a polish on it, also NXT should be the last layer if anything.

I did a #83, #80, #9, #5, #26, gold class wax on mine recently. Still need to go over it again as there are some scratches still visible in some places.

yeah my brother told me that after i said "hey i waxed my car in this order"

now i know for next time, which really, i could do this coming weekend or the next weekend. hmmm, next weekend i could do a full detail - strip the wax, claybar, the works

Why claybar it again? Don't cause unnecessary wear to your paint, just wash it and wax again if you want to

clay isn't going to put that much wear on paint if you use the right type and method...still if you do it once and keep it waxed you really don't need it so often.

autopia and meguiarsonline are great.

I have been using Meguiar's products since 1988...I have tried higher end waxes and really they didn't make that big a difference if you do great prep work.

The trick is to polish right if you want the wax to shine. Today most would do better with a sealant than a wax anyway.
