Troy looks great. not to mention harry potter, spiderman 2, shrek 2 etc. im sure there are some im missing. But man this is going to be a good year.

I'm hoping that Collateral, The Bourne Supremacy, The Manchurian Candidate, The Day After, and I, Robot will be good.

as little as i like brad pit.....vin diesel sucks

No argument here. He's in the same boat as the rock - image over substance. It's just sad when Hollywood makes movies revolving around these types.

So, how much of the Troy myth is real? There was a Troy, but do they know why it was destroyed?

Actually it's an adaptation of a freaking old story. Ben-Hur wasn't written all that long ago.

About is correct. I took from the post that the poster was excited at the thought of watching the movie, hence excited about seeing it. Excited to see would be used differently, as in I would be excited to see that movie.

And yeah, I wanna see it, too. I've only been to maybe two movies that I felt were a waste of my money, and so the odds are in this one's favor.

I would read the book again but it took me so long the first time. I wish they wouldn't repeat people's lineage so often.

Too bad that there are no gods in the movie...Poseidon owns.

I would have liked sean bean to play achilles. Achilles after all is supposed to be powerful, big and like a greek god. Somehow I cant see Brad Pitt in that role.

I actually think Brad is perfectly cast for it. No way Bean can play that role. No where in the book where it describe him being big, but it does say he is the most powerful warrior and the most hansom.

I liked the movie despite a lot of deviations from Homer's book. This is a movie afterall.

*SPOILERS*

-There is only one Ajax instead of two (exactly what I expected).
-Diomedes is completely missing for the Greeks (come on, at least mention him).
-Sarpedon is completely missing for the Trojans.
-Cassandra is completely missing for the Trojans (she should have been important enough to be included).
-Aeneas is briefly mentioned at the end, is much younger than should be.
-Patroclus is much younger than should be. He is cousin to Achilles instead of just friend.
-Briseis, the slavegirl of Achilles, is given a much larger role than the book and add a romantic element to the story. She seems to take some of Cassandra's role too.
-Prominent characters die earlier or later than should be (not gonna give names for this one, but it is my biggest gripe).

*SPOILERS*

No Diomedes? Damn, he's my favorite character from the epic, damn...

Skipped all the replies in case of spoilers. Yes! No magic and stuff. That just made the movie better for me.

Just got back from seeing it... I think BADASS sums it up nicely. Those 1v1 fights were awesome and the whole thing was epic. I say Braveheart = Troy > Gladiator

no gods or magical stuff in the movie
That the lord... I was dreading seeing this movie because I hate that kind of stuff (LOTR, etc.)... not that greek mythology interests me either... but it's a step up from fantasy. I'm being dragged to see it tonight.

Did you watch the movie? They reference Patroclus as Achiles' cousin.

Project Troia

I'll have to check that link out

There were many cities built at the Troy site. They seem to have been built, destroyed by earthquake or war, leveled, and then rebuilt. These are numbered so you have a "Troy 1" a "Troy 3" etc, representing each city. The oldest habitations on the site may go back as far as 7000 years.

As far as THE Trojan war? No evidence to date that it really happened. Jury is still out on that one.

Isn't the jury also still out on whether or not that site really is Troy?

Yes I watched the movie. I stated that pretty poorly. I meant the reverse. Pratroclus should NOT be Achilles' cousin, rather he is a friend and servant of Achilles.
