Looks like they found major evidence of police abuse of minorities, looks like mike brown was killed for being black. Screw the people who defended these thugs witch badges.

Original thread title: Feds to sue Ferguson Police over Mike Brown and Rampant Racism, was changed to: Justice Dept. could sue Ferguson for racial discrimination. 1 point infraction for deliberate false thiread title = auto-vacation level reached. -Admin DrPizza

Mike Brown was killed for being an enraged asshole that attacked a cop.

That's the thing. In spite of all the BS in the Ferguson PD, they still couldn't find racism in Mike Brown's killing.

Now, I'll agree there's likely 100's of cases of actual racism in Ferguson (I live in the area, It's obvious the place is racist) but there's a 404 Racism Not Found error anytime the Mike Brown case comes up.

Also, nothing in the article or anything online says this possible suit has anything to do with Michael Brown.

You're adding that to the story. This has nothing to do with Mike Brown and you should edit your post to reflect that. Otherwise, this is a dishonest OP and the thread should be locked.

Sounds like strong arm tactics by the Fed and nothing more. If they really had anything worthy of pressing charges it would have already been done.

The Justice Department is preparing to bring a lawsuit against the Ferguson, Missouri, police department over a pattern of racially discriminatory tactics used by officers, if the police department does not agree to make changes on its own, sources tell CNN.

To the OP, racial discrimination not found in the Michael Brown case. Just another young person who felt he was 10 foot tall and bullet proof only to find out that was not the case in real life.

The article doesn't say anything about suing over the Brown case, it is the larger pattern of racism in the ferguson PD. In that it seems like Justice has a pretty damn strong case.

They already gave them an out, by saying "we will bring charges if Ferguson PD doesn't make changes on their own". So they will claim they made changes, while in reality they will just lay low on the racism for a few months until people lose interest.

Nobody is getting sued here... this is just a threat and Ferguson PD must now show deference to the DoJ by not being racist for a bit.

Would be better for everyone concerned if the Ferguson PD were disbanded a la Compton's and its duties taken over by the county police force.

Looks more like the feds trying to punish the FPD as a show of "look, we're doing something about them evil whiteys!" after the whole MB fiasco. I'm sure there are plenty of real issues there, it wouldn't be hard to build some sort of case.

Oh what is this? A police department falling victim to the same bullshit they push onto citizens? One giant tear is being shed for a police department having the fed look hard enough to find something worthy of a lawsuit.

Hey, I'm not shedding any tears over it. If there are violations (and I'm sure there are plenty, just like with any PD around the country), there should be more accountability. I just don't like doing it as political theater or as political punishment.

While I agree with you, I welcome any action that puts police departments back in line with the constitution. I just really hope this is only only about race. Lets fix the cops who think the constitution only applies in the courtroom.

The only charge the article mentioned was that the officers chose to enforce laws on the books rather than let them slide. Sounds more like an issue with the laws, not the enforcers. If a law should not be enforced then it should not be on the books.

DCAL430 didn't even read article.

He saw headline that his mind distorted into a false event because he's still suffering from failing to acknowledge he was invested into a lie. He's tricking himself into lying so he doesn't have to accept he fell for a different lie.

below is a link to article describing what's been going on in that area for quite some time..

read this article:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...t-louis-county-missouri-profits-from-poverty/

again, read the article.. yes it's long but it's a good story.

basically.. police and authorities in these podunk towns have come to rely on fines and fees from petty offensives to finance their operations.. anybody, not just black people, can be caught up in this.. these minor traffic violations are like low hanging fruit to law enforcement.

the problem is, many poor and uneducated people end up not showing up in court, because they are under the mistaken belief that if they show up and tell the judge they can't pay the fine because they are broke that they will go to jail.. there are other reasons but mostly it's because they are ignorant of how the system works and are too poor to pay someone (a lawyer) to help them through the process.

so when these people fail to show up for their hearing, a failure-to-appear arrest warrant is put out on them..

bottom line is that officials in these places have turned petty crime into a money making scheme.. I don't know so much that it's racism driving this crap, or if it's simple greed (by officials) driving these schemes.. schemes which many poor people are getting caught up in.

In this case, no harm. But whatever you do, don't take tax advice from him.

Misrepresentative title but an excellent article. St. Louis county and it's 90 municipalities have a lot of issues to address.

It's either an appropriate response to a real problem in a real community--one that happened to become very public.

Or, it's just political theater.

I suppose the two interpretations of this depend on which side of the political line one splits their ass.

So are you upset that they are going after Ferguson because of political reasons or that they, by your own admission, are likely to find something?

Edit: You answered the question already later in the thread and while I agree with you, and I am really not a "ends justify the means" type of person, something needs to be done to reign this crap in.

I just finished reading the DOJ report and Holy Shit! They got one fucked up racket going there.

Not only do they need to clean out the entire leadership / management of the FPD, they also need to throw every Municipal Judge, every court clerk, ever municipal prosecutor and every city manager involved with this into jail.

While no doubt there is racism and profiling going on, this was after all a city that used to block off streets leading to the "black" towns at night in order to keep black people out, it seems most of it devolved into one big money making scheme.

A $400 dollar fine for high grass? What the fuck, not even the most Nazi of Homeowners Associations do that!

Show up to court to fight a ticket with a lawyer? Judge charges you with contempt, throws you in jail for 10 days and slaps on a $1,000 dollar fine?? And then issues a Failure to Appear warrant?? Holy Shit! I thought our area's racket of locking up people over a $15 parking ticket or because one of your children played hookey from school was bad. We have nothing on this racket.

Look, I know the gangsta-ghetto "no snitches" culture can be a source of problems, but come on, some of this shit these city officials have been pulling off is just way over the top!

I really do hope that this causes people in communities all over the country take a closer look at what's happening in their own back yards. I can guarantee that this shit isn't limited to just St. Louis County.
