crooked clarence caught red handed
Senate needs to start corruption hearings, yesterday. What's more of a concern to the nation, a judge on the take or a drug addict trading on his father's name in the past?

I just love the drip drip drip of all of this.

I believe that all of this info has been uncovered for quite some time by now, but the release of it in "small" batches over a longer period of time is necessarily intentional.

The only way to save the US is to hold pieces of complete shit like Thomas and the other half dozen corrupted justices to account. Congress has to act and fix SCOTUS. There is nothing in the constitution that gives them the power to make their own laws, and disallow any laws that prevent them from being owned by corporate handlers. These fuckers need to be brought to heel.

I agree - I hope we see a new SCOTUS corruption story about once a month, every month, for the foreseeable future.

The question is will it even matter? The evidence is already overwhelming, but no one that could do something seems inclined to. We all know that there is only two real remedies for this, impeachment or stacking the court, and no one in power seems willing to do either.

Who knows, but if those sorts of things are going to happen you're going to need public opinion to shift and nonstop stories about how corrupt SCOTUS is helps do that.

It really is - I am pretty confident that Thomas never took money with an explicit 'give me $$ and I'll vote your way' but this is utterly obvious corruption where he is being paid huge sums of money to be a reliable vote in all matters.
Probably why he helped push for the ruling on bribery years ago that it is only a bribe if there is explicit quid pro quo.

If nothing else think of how much of Alito's time that can be burned penning non-stop opinion pieces for the WSJ that all this is fine.

Thomas has more instances of taking luxury vacations from "donors" than he has of asking questions during SCOTUS arguments.

You gotta wonder how those two are connected. While he's been taking these bribes his entire life, he probably realized that if he spoke too much during arguments his dumb mouth could expose his intent and therefore his owners, so he decided to just shut up.

Or, as likely, his owners simply told him to shut his dumb mouth and he complied.

I'm of the opinion that his right wing backers aren't paying him for any one particular vote or decision - they are just rewarding him for being on the team in general. He knows if he starts voting differently the gravy train will stop.

Just remember this face. The face of possibly the most corrupt US citizen in American history, let alone of any Supreme Court justice in history. A face of someone who I believe hates America, hates the American way of life, and is devoted to making a mockery out of American system of justice. And the face now has its chance to do exactly that. Remember this face because this face has something in common with Donald Trump's face, they both have no respect for YOU.

I heard the next phase of the investigation may center on the possibility there has to be a level of organization behind having such a wealth of benefits. Maybe, for example, the gifts arrive courtesy of the Federalist Society. This pealing of this onion may yield much much.more.

Sorry, I don't see words, I hear them. I don't see letters I see shapes that trigger sounds. To spell a word I have to remember the sound of every letter, like Mississippi. I can't spell lots of other cities or many words I haven't memorized.

What we need is green man to come in here and both sides this and completely ignore the corruption. Then we'll all feel better about ourselves.

I'm still surprised how cheap of a whore this man and his wife have turned out to be.
Same here, he’s a wealthy successful guy. Just buy this shit on your own.

NowI have to sound like a both sider.
I am very disappointed all this crappy behavior is just coming in view today. He’s been. Judge a long, long time. No other SC Justice or court intern knew about any of this is pretty hard to believe.

I could make a case for Thomas not having his judgment influenced by gifts but that doesn't get us around appearances unless we admit that those who see no proof of judgment affected don't see any appearances as a result either. My argument would run along the lines that gifts couldn't have affected Thomas one way or another because he has no judgment to be effected.

you need to remind yourself justices aren't wealthy. they gave up lucrative incomes for public service. it makes sense when you consider some shit head paid off kavvanaugh's 1.2m mortgage, which is nothing now a days. doesn't take much to ply a middle class on the cusp of greater people who'v enever seen that kind of money before. once you take out illiquid assets out of a justice's nw, they don't have much.

Chief Justice salary: $298,500 / year. Other justices $285k/yr. Not chump change by most people's standards (upper 6% of household incomes, before accounting for bribes free unlimited global travel and accommodations, and their spouses income)

However, high end lawyers make far more than that salary. Median all-in compensation for law firm partners was $675k in 2021 from one article, with the mean over $1 million. Although Clarence might be approaching those figures, if you properly track benefits... but I doubt he reported the bribes free trips and gifts as taxable income.
