That's what I mean by privilege, from the conversations I've had, what we perceive as harmless fun, esp with decades in the rear view mirror, have unintended consequences are still consequences. The faux rage by his political opponents are over the top too.

Personally I give him a mulligan on this one. Was it racist? Yes. But we can't judge the man today based on something that happened 20 years ago and for which he's clearly apolegetic (I'm sure all of use have stuff we did under the age of 25 that we sorely regret and would hate to see plastered all over the news). Even more so, before all this came out Trudeau was opening up canada to all sort of immigrants fleeing war and other issues. I remember a speech he gave chiding the US for turning away syrian refugees and stating canada would take them.It’s not really false rage when his party is also quite happy to dredge up statements and such from 15-20 years ago to try and paint people as racist or intolerant. It’s really quite tiresome all around.
