I have this set - very good quality. I can't bear to pay more for a flat screen. I think I paid $399 from Mercata.com delivered. Remember them anyone? 3 years ago?

BTW, the SHARP has generally lesser reliability ratings from consumerreports.org than many other brands.

I will take JVC over Sharp anytime. Especially if the price is almost identical.

i picked that model up about three years ago at over 700 bucks. While not a flat screen, its a freakin deal and a half at that price. Mind you that it was only about 40 dollars less than the 32 inch vega when it first came out, so you can expect quality. Great buy.......pm me if you have any questions on this set

I worked at Circuit City through college - Lead Customer Service rep for 4years - about the only worse tv out there is a Daewoo or Broksonic. Give a Sharp tv to a hated family member to torture them with crap picture and more time spent in service than at the house.

This JVC is a good set to get.

Sharp is also a good TV for the price, and is by far the #1 TV I recommend
to my customers that want to spend very little. Sharp build quality and service
rates up there with the best brands, yet their price is near the bottom. But,
pix quality is a tad lower than the best brands. Still, if cash is tight, Sharp
will be alright.

Top brands are Sony, JVC, Toshiba and Sharp (Sharp due to price + build quality).

Bottom suckers for Direct view tube TV's are:
RCA/GE/Proscan, Apex, Phillips, Sylvania, Zenith, Goldstar, Emerson, Funia, Sanyo, plus more.

Other brands like Hitachi, Samsung and Panasonic, or other well known name brands,
fall somewhere in between the Top brands and the bottom suckers.

This is what I do everyday, for the past 15 years. Factory trained on most brands.
Am not a customer service rep, but am the head tech, as well as own and run the joint.
Prior to my own company, worked for the top service center in West Florida.

I'm partial to Toshiba myself. Samsung is really coming along too...I read sometime back that they want to overtake SONY as the #1 electronics manufacturer, so their products have really went up in quality and innovation.

The 32" JVC (first one linked, $379) has component inputs. The Sharp 32" linked later ($349) does not have component inputs. This alone is worth the $30 price difference IMO. Might as well get the component inputs for your DVD player or [videogame system of choice].

This JVC is the next step up and goes from a 2-line filter to a 3-line and adds a couple more inputs...for only $20 more. Link

And for the Toshiba fans, this TV looks nice too, with the 3-line filter and 50 more lines of resolution! $429 before % off offered this weekend.

JVC~~ poor results in my family! Top 27" PIP TV lasted only 5 yrs (after 2 VERY costly repairs)! Pd. $550 for dang pc. of crap - remote broke after 2.5 yrs.

Also, camcorder that's used 6-8 times/yr is falling apart and I have babied that thing!

from what i gather from the videophiles, jvc tubes give good picture quality but not great reliability. just make sure you've got a warranty!
