JVC 48" widescreen HDTV - $1850 free ship, zero tax

Goodguys currently has $150 off over $2001 purchases. This TV is $1999, so add the cheapest item, some batteries or whatever, to use the $150 off. Free shipping and no tax (no tax saves me around $170 in Seattle, WA.) Go through Ebates and save 2% more for around $36 off.

I normally prefer Toshiba and Hitachi TVs, but Toshiba kind of ignores the in-between 47 to 48" widescreen TVs as does Hitachi.

Any comments on price, quality and recommendations of other TVs is appreciated.

Crazyeddie has the same TV for $1,497.95. Shipping is $350 at most, depends on where you want it to be shipped to. If you are from the East, you will get the same TV cheaper from Crazyeddie. Only taxed in New Jersey.

I own this TV and it is great, one of the very few HDTV's with a DVI port built in. The problem with most HDTV's is that they have no digital in port so that ='s source digital, converted to analog out to tv, tv then up converts analog signal back to digital so effectively you have a really nice analog signal TV.

It would really suck to buy a HDTV without a firewire or dvi port only to find out in 6 months its completely obsolete.

Good buy on this TV, you will love it if you pick one up.

Thanks for the information. Right now I am leaning against purchasing because my primary use will unfortunately be with standard cable TV signal. From some research, I have found that the one area where these TVs suffer is standard cable/analog picture. I do have DVD and am sure the picture would be superb, but the fact remains probably 90% of my viewing would be regular TV signals.

At Thanksgiving, I looked at lots of HDTVs. The rear-projection TVs in the showroom were all showing a DVD, which looked fantastic. The regular tube TVs were all showing the football came, non-HDTV, over cable. They all looked pretty good, and they probably looked OK with DVD. When I started looking at the football game on the HDTV projection TVs, I was kind of shocked. They had bad dot-crawl, fuzzy pictures and other problems. Every brand I looked at had problems. My 10 year old 30" Toshiba looked better than almost every one of these HDTVs. Now I know that people will blame the signal and not the TV, but I don't care -- I want regular cable TV pictures to look better on a $2000 HDTV than they do on my ten year old TV.

I hope you have searched through AVSForum to get to know more about this HDTV. If not do so before buying it.

As for as DVI is concerned, lot of poeple think it is dead because of new FCC mandate that TVs should have digital tuners in future. Look at this Thread for details.

$75 is the handling fee I suppose. Think about how heavy this monstor is?

Directv and Dish broadcast in digital so you will be getting some usage. Problem is, not all the networks are broadcasting in digital. Some of them are.
