Note: Best deal is now at Digital Foto Club - NOT CC

NEW LINK

This in-dash CD/MP3 player is $149 in the store and was on sale for $129 online but has dropped to $108.37 with NO rebates to hassle with. Looks like it got good customer reviews. Qualifies for fee shipping but I ordered mine for in-store pickup. I'm tired of burning my MP3 collection to regular CD's just to listen to them in the car. CC will even install it for free since it costs over $99, if you trust them - just be prepared to say NO to all of the add-ons and extended warranty crap they offer. Here's the specs:

? 50 watts x 4 peak power
? One pre-amp output
? MP3 & CD-R/RW playback
? Multi-color faceplate
? Remote control
? CD-Text display

It is showing up as $134.99 for me

That is probably a good thing - you just about gave me "hot dealer price-drop depression" since I ordered this Sunday night from cardomain.com for $130.89 shipped ($119 + $10.98 shipping). Although for that price I got the wiring harness, dash install kit, and connector kit all thrown in for free (CC charges $48 for this necessary hardware to do their so called "FREE INSTALL" :| )

I researched the specs for this as well (my wife wanted a good but inexpensive CD/MP3 player in our minivan and this seemed to be the best bang for the buck!)

If anyone is interested:

JVC have a good reputation for making good Indash MP3 players, had my current JVC SX990 for over 2 1/2 years now and still going strong

Anyone know how this compares quality wise to the JVC KD-SH99 indash mp3/cd player? I've wanted that particular unit back when mp3 units first came out, but it was priced at $250-300. I'm curious if prices have actually dropped down to the low 100s, or if this is just a cheaper quality model?

I picked my JVC player up at CC on the way home last night. I pulled out the AIWA (cheapie) player I had installed and compared the plugs - exact match. The only difference was the remote wire that I don't use and the left and right speaker wires were switched. So I just used the AIWA plug on the JVC to test it out. I'M IMPRESSED! The JVC is a much more powerful player than the AIWA. The display is too cool!
I love the "HELLO" and "GOODBYE" that flash on the screen when you turn it on and off. Blue screen with red buttons looks nice. Played some regular CD's both R's and RW's that I burned. No problem and I finally got to see the CD TEXT that I included on the CD's I burned - artist, album, title and track info. Next I tried some CD-R's and CD-RW's with multiple folders containing MP3's. Took it a few seconds to CHECK the CD and then it started playing - AWESOME! Displays the MP3 tag information and the folder and file names. I scanned through the manual for a few minutes and this player has a ton of features. I plan on checking them out after work today. Crutchfield carries a similar model JVC called the AR300 that is covered in the same manual as the G300. I checked Crutchfield and they sell it for $159. If I needed an install kit, instructions and plug converter, I'd probably have gotten this player at Crutchfield but you can't beat the CC price and immediate gatification!

Note: I checked the CC price and it's back up to $128 now - bummer!

Being the early adopter that I am, I have the original Aiwa one also. I've been pretty happy with it. Does this one or any that have the ability to do random play across folders. ie: If you had a DMB MP3 CD with 3 albums on it. I would like the ability to hit random and it would randomly play songs from any of the 3 albums.

this might not be assuring as buying it from a retailer such as circuit city, but i found it for $105 shipped at digital foto club. Their reseller rating is a 9.2, not bad.

Yes, the manual shows you may select random play at the disk or folder level.

I bought a real cheapie unit from CC earlier this year, was like $30 or so, plays MP3's but has a few issues:

1) Trouble reading some commercial discs on 1st try (eject / reinsert or radio / cd mode fixes most of time). These are no-scratch discs... it's a headunit issue.

2) Does not keep track of where you were in song when you turn off car/radio. Next start song starts at beginning again. Minor issue, but, didn't realize how much I miss it.

Anyway, sounds like #1 is a non-issue w/ JVC but wonder about the memory thing.

Nice find! I checked digital foto club and they now have it for $99.85. I'll change my topic. Thanks!

The JVC remembers where it was in the song, at least on regular CD's. Not sure if it does on MP3 CD's. I'll give this a try with an MP3 CD and let you know.

Yea please check that, I've got an older Aiwa mp3 unit that restarts the song every time I turn the car on/off. It's an important feature I would really like to have, even with the low cost of this unit!

FYI guys

I don't know if you saw my post above, but if you need the hardware to install this stereo,
Cardomain.com gives you the hardware for free with the head unit. THe shipped price for me in NY (opposite coast from cardmoain) was $130.98.

Works out to about $25 more than digitalphotoclub.

I have the KD-300 model (the only difference between the 300 and the 400 is that the 400 has a flip down face (not the best implementation of by the way), while the 300 has a slot on the front to load cds with. It does remember where it was on an mp3 track and resumes play. The navigation is pretty straight forward. I like the way the actual folder name is displayed when you jump between them, as well as the ID3v2 info for the track name and artist. The big solid rotary volume control was a plus. Standard bass, treble, simple preset equilizers (rock, jazz, etc) and loudness controls, although you can adjust the gain for the rca outputs to your amps.

My only gripes are that it only has 1 pair of rca outputs, the pause between mp3 tracks (kinda like the old 2 sec gap on old regular audio cds, think I'm too used to winamp cross fading songs), the display is hard to read in the daytime at certain angles, and the remote control doesn't have a button to display the ID3v2 info so if you've set the unit to revert back to the clock instead of scrolling the song info the whole time you'll have to push a button on the unit to see the info again while that song is playing.

All in all not a bad head unit especially for this price. Think I got it for $140 in Feb. from Best Buy B&M.

If it makes anyone feel any better, this is a solid company.

I bought my $400 digital camera+docking station from them about 1 year ago, and they shipped the camera instead of the camera+dock package. So I called them up, and after a friendly chat, they shipped the RETAIL docking station to me via Fed-Ex 2 day! So of course I just sold that baby and actually made a profit... Class-A company.

It was $99.85 +shipping yesterday. Looks like the price on this player changes daily. I wonder if JVC is getting ready to release a new replacement series of players?

Yes those Pioneer Premier HU's are awesome but for those looking for a fairly simple mp3/cd player thats cheap and has decent power this might be a good deal. Did I mention that a wiring harness for my civic costs 60$ alone? Lol.
