RX-DP10VBK for 599 Info, 2 left
RX-DP9VBK for 399 Info, I bought one, 1 left.

Not sure if there are more somewhere in the store...

I think Sony DE1075 is also on sale for 250....

This is hot. Except the RX-DP9VBK was out of stock. The San Diego store did have 1 RX-DP10VBK left though.

The Fry's in Phoenix, AZ has 2 of the DP10VBK remaining. They had 3, but I jumped in on this deal.

The salesman was trying to push an Onkyo on me, saying it would sound 10 times better than this model. Even though the specs didn't come close to the JVC's. I smiled and nodded, smiled and nodded, and then said I'm pretty sure I was going with the JVC.

I got it hooked up about a half hour ago, and it's a night and day comparison to my old Kenwood. Zero 7: Simple Things CD sounds stunning, connected through optical cable.

One note: This thing is MASSIVE. Heavy, and takes up a lot of real estate. I would estimate 17"L x17"W x 7"D. Must sure you have the room.

I found a pretty decent review on this receiver as well. It comes highly recommended! I slapped the PDF on a GeoCities site.

JVC (and Technics) tend to overblow their specs. Especially on power ratings. But, honestly, you don't really need 120 Watts per channel if you have a good sub or two to back up your other speakers

I could be persuaded to bite on the RX-DP10VBK even though I'm not a JVC fan.

Does it have 7.1 channel inputs and 7.1 channel preamp outs? Their website specs say 5.1 inputs. Why would they 5.1 in and 7.1 out on a $1700 MSRP model? Maybe I should just spend a little extra and get the HK I was considering...

That IS a nice unit for only $599 though.

Wow...nice deals. Too bad I'm in Austin, and DanielNTX confirmed there aren't any.

It only has 5.1 inputs. However, I don't really see a benefit to a 7.1 input, at least not yet. All the DVD players I've seen have discrete outputs for 5 channels, maybe 6 on a super-high-end beast. Regardless, I'll be using the digital coax audio connector and letting the receiver do all the processing.

Is the only benefit of discrete analog inputs that the output sounds as the source (DVD player) intended? Maybe someone could enlighten me.

Thanks CF888... I didn't even look at the receivers when I was at the Fry's you mentioned last weekend (I live in Eugene, so the Wilsonville Fry's isn't TOO far away, plus we were visiting my parents in Portland anyway).

I might have to upgrade to the Sony DE1075. I love my Kenwood and all, but having all Sony components (including a nice 36" Vega) will make it that much easier to use the new Sony universal remote when I can afford to buy it.

WOW... I just looked up the Sony Employee price on the DE1075... $375!!! Even b-stock (open-box, etc) is still $265!! $250 is an amazing deal.

Actually, this is not really the case. JVC and Technics (or, Panasonic) tend to be some of lesser violators of 'overrating' their power levels. For example: the JVC RX8000VBK receiver claimed to put out 100 watts x 5. In reality it puts out 68 watts per channel with all 5 channels driven. In stereo mode, it essentially puts out 120 watts x 2. The new Panasonic receiver is reviewed in the latest issue of Sound and Vision. Once again, the power outputs with all 5 channels driven was pretty close to what the manufacturer stated. Now, take the new Onkyo 600 which claims 80 watts per channel. In reality, when all channels are driven, the output is only 34 watts per channel. How about the Yamaha HTR-5560? Yamaha claims 75 watts x 6 channels. However, with all channels driven, the receiver can only put out 27 watts per channel. As you can see, JVC and Panasonic may overstate their watts a bit, but when you look at Onkyo and Yamaha, you can really see some gross violations of mis-representing the output levels.

It does. THX Ultra certified, with THX Surround EX (7.1 ch) processing, also known as Dolby Digital EX.

Yeah, kyutip you might want to sprint down to Tempe (?) and grab that DP10VBK because I'm 99.9% sure that it is also THX certified. I know that the 9VBK is and it's the model below. Also, if you look really really closely at the pic of the 10VBK on the JVC website, you can see the THX logo on the front panel. I'm surprised that they didn't list that feature on their site.

Packy, if you're already back in Eugene, save yourself the 3 hours of driving because I was at Fry's about two hours ago and there's no Sony DE1075. The highest model Sony I saw was either the 8xx or 9xx series. I think it was the 8xx model.

Edited to add special content

kweinmeister, unless you're a hardcore VHS or VCD fan, I don't think you'll miss ProLogic II. If i remember right, it basically simulates 5.1 channels from a two channel sound source.

wje, as far as the JVC RX8000VBK receiver, I don't consider 68Wx5 to be anywhere near 100Wx5. That's a 150W+ discrepancy. But like I said, as long as you're running powered subs you don't need buttloads of wattage for your main channels unless you live in a warehouse/gym/auditorium.
That kind of shocks me about the Yamaha HTR-5560 though. Especially since Yamaha rated that power at 0.06% THD versus the 0.08% THD that almost everyone else uses. If I look into that and it turns out to be true, I'm going to have to give them the Aiwa Award!

Valkore, does the learning remote do macros? I'm ultra lazy.
Still thinking about the JVC but if I go back and they're gone that's okay. I don't really need it anyway.

Hey, I just realized something...

CF888, where were the Sonys? I didn't see them. Were they stacked out somewhere? Perhaps there's still hope for kyutip?

I don't think it can. Actually, the remote kinda sucks. the LCD screen on it is super-dim, and you need to hold it at an angle to really read it. Pressing the light helps too. I'm planning on replacing it with a nicer remote anyway, but it'll do the job for now.

I'm absolutely loving this receiver though. Now to buy 5 more Klipsch reference speakers to get my THX on..
