JW meets Networkman, OhioDude & Smokeball

In a Another sign of continuing great fellowship here. John Middleton recently got the opportunity to meet with members Networkman, Ohiodude and Smokeball in the last 3 weeks :

I've had the pleasure of getting together with Networkman and Engineer several times, I've met Dave McOwen and his wife Donna, and several years ago hosted a LAN party with some RC5 teammates that haven't been around for a long time, such as Feisters, Captain_Rob, GSmith, Networkman, and others.

I've met quite a few folks - RaySun2Be, MrFluffy, Baldy18, JWMiddleton, Rocker, Legoman, Ishmael2K, Wolf4dk, BGod, CLLSr, Kilowatt, and a few others whom I can't remember but that I met at a LAN party in Minnesota.

Unfortunately, it looks like the trip I had planned to visit LANMAN has been nixed by work, but I am planning another trip next year for the Indiana, Illinois, Iowa area... lotta "I" states there.

EDIT: Oops - sorry, forgot to mention Osmo, but even though he's just down the street, he doesn't vist very often.. I think he's afraid of me (and my host of computers).

Donna and I hope to be able to meet as many people from not just AT here but so many that helped. We don't know when we would be able to travel like that but I would like to say that if anyone is ever in the Atlanta area, please feel free to contact me as Donna and I would love the opportunity to meet you while you are in the area. We live 80 miles Northeast of the city but can meet closer to the city.

Ya beat me to it Dave!

Actually I managed to meet all three of the gentlemen Dave mentioned in a one week period. I flew up to Detroit on business on Tueday, 10/9. On Saturday, 10/12, I drove from Detroit to Grand Rapids, MI, to visit with Rich (Networkman.) That visit prompted the thread about his basement. I drove back to Detroit the next morning and attended a computer show in Madison Heights. (I only bought a mouse, optical version.) The next afternoon I drove my rental car from Detroit to Lordstown, OH, stopping in Akron to visit with George (Ohiodude) and have dinner. I was able to spend a few enjoyable hours with OD, before continueing my drive to Lordstown.Well, I finished up my work in the cold country and flew back to Atlanta on Thursday, 10/17. My wife picked me up at the airport and we drove to Biloxi, MS for the Mississippi State GWRRA District Rally. The next day she and I were able to visit with Greg (Smokeball) and his lovely wife Kathleen. After visiting at their incredible home, we headed out for lunch (thanks for buying!) We parted company and did our thing for the rest of the weekend with 3,800 other Goldwing owners.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting each of these three gentlemen. As similar as our interest is in computers and SETI, they were very different individuals. Rich is a few months longer than my Daughter, while Greg is the same age as my older brother. Geogre is somewhere in between! Rich and George are more on the quite side, while Greg was his usually bubbly "cheerleading" self! NWM is into the hardware side, while OD is a software developer. Smoke is more of an end-user and organizer: hence Team Smokeball.

Now, who is next!

I thoroughly enjoyed the visit by Linda and John. I?d also like to extend an invitation to ?you all? (yawl) to please plan on a visit with ole Smokeball if you are ever traveling in the Deep, Deep South.

If I can talk Kathleen into staying away from her grandchildren for six-weeks or so, I?d like to take that Grand Western Tour I?ve wanted to do for so long, sometime next summer. I?m going to try and placate her by subscribing to a Cellular National Talk Plan so she can talk to them all she wants no matter where we roam.

My travel route will be from Biloxi (on the Mississippi Gulf Coast) via I-10 to California. Then we plan on traveling northward in a zigzag pattern toward Vancouver, BC. If we can fit it in, we might take a cruise to Alaska and return to Vancouver. Then head back East, again in a zigzag pattern, across the North-Western United States and Southern Canada ending in Chicago. From there we?ll work our way South back home to Biloxi.

So if you are located somewhere on this route, please let me know and I?ll try to work in a visit.

I?ll have to be sure and visit Evadman to collect/pay off our bets.

Hmm, ?bubbly cheerleading self?. Well, since I was a cheerleader for my Ole Miss Rebels many, many years ago, I have to say I ?resemble? that remark.

If you ever do make it on your trip, I would gladly meet up with you when you swing threw the twin cities and stop at the Mall of America.

I have met a few people from the forums. Cavdraco, Wellcky, OrangeKid, Networkman, Bgod, CLLSr, and a few others. I would love to meet anyone that happens to swing threw the St. Paul/Minneapolis area. Just leave a Email and I will see what I can do.

Dave, I was unable to attend the taping not all that long ago, but I've always wanted to follow through and meet you. I've also always wanted to meet Bot (Bot2600)....maybe we could get something arranged....? I'm still in Atlanta (Sandy Springs), and Bot is up in Charlotte, as you know....
