I dont know why, but I'm sooooo not excited for barcelona. its just taking way too long to come out, just like R600, and things lose their appeal when they take too long to get to the market. I hope AMD can prove me wrong and get me excited, because right now I'm eyeballing Yorkfield.

K10 will surely be slower than Conroe. Almost all signs point to scaling problems. Unless it's tremendously faster clock-for-clock than Conroe, K10 will be just as underwhelming as R600.

I guess we can look forward to price drops on their quad-core chips once these AMD chips surface. Maybe not though, the listed AMD prices seem too high already, but I'm guessing that those are for "server" chips, not desktop units.

Wait now, I thought most people understood that the R600 performance issues are due to driver immaturity?

I'm not referring to R600's performance. It looked like an absolute monster on paper but its actual performance barely matches an 8800GTS. Drivers can only do so much for a card. "Mature" drivers will not make R600 faster than the 8800GTX.

K10 looks really good on paper but it also has been delayed and delayed.

Because of new drivers released it now beats the GTS in most scenarios. I don't believe it will ever be faster than a GTX but it got closer.

I been reading that K10 isnt going to beat Intel procs so I'm not excited. A shame really. I'd like to see AMD come back and dethrone Intel. It'd keep Intel on their toes and it'd be good for consumers. The only thing I see really positive so far from K10 is that prices will be affected. Intel will slash prices just to beat on AMD some more and AMD will lower prices more to try to compete with Intel dominance. So on the performance side K10 is ho-hum but the price wars will be nice.

Just my feelings about it.

Uh, I never said that would happen.

I just looked at the price structure again. Yeah, that DOES seem strange. For every 100 MHz move up, the price starts to go up by leaps and bounds.

Makes you wonder if this is legitimate.

One problem is either the yields or its just very hard to clock barcelona. This is bad news because OCing must be a BIG no, and availability could also be the problem for the highest clocked parts (that will undoubtedly use the cherry picked cores).

The Barcelona chips are the 'Server' line of the series and Phenom will be the 'Desktop/Enthusiast' line of the series.
