k6-2 300 chip in an old asus motherboard

Does anyone have any experience with this chip. Running at 75mhzX3.5 tried 83mhz but windows would not boot. multiplier goes 2 2.5 3 3.5 then 6?

I have one still, 3 years now. Works great, cool and fairly fast. K6-2 means 100fsb. If your board cannot do that then use the 66fsb and set the multiplier to 4.5.

Can't do 4.5? Then tell us what board it is. Someone may have an answer.

Actually the 2 multiplier is remapped to 6 if it?s a ctx core, 300?s weren?t to the best of my knowledge. You also have to make sure your mother board can handle it as in if it?s a split plane mb and can you get close to voltage spec. Try setting it to 2 times 86 to see if it will post the problem may not be with cpu but the mb if it posts and you have a 3.5 setting it should run at 301 but some 300 we not rated for 100mhz front side bus but 66mhz x 4.5. Also one other problem some older mb had timing circuits in them that utilized the cpu speed if that the case your cpu will not work at all ( though I highly doubt that this is the case.) My best advice is try low settings and work your way up. If it won?t boot at say 3 x 66 you have other problems or the cpu?s kaput.

The 300's that don't support 100fsb are the K6 300's. Notice the -2 is missing. Thats all you need to check to tell them apart. Kind of sad that the board doesn't support 4.5x multiplier. It sounds like a TX chipset, there may be an unsupported fix to do the 4.5x multiplier. It should be able to do the required voltage 2.2v and 3.3v. I wish rorpan would list what the board's make is. That answer many questions fast.
