Is extra cooling needed with these settings?
Now I have WinTek ordinary CPU cooler and nothing more.

Really surprised you haven't gotten any replys yet.

If you are talking about having the heat sink/fan combo that came with your cpu, then I would say definitely get a better setup. You're pushing the cpu a lot to get to 500. There has got to be more heat generated. Heat=bad.

There are several good cooling sites out there: a couple I like,

http://www.millisec.com
http://www.2cooltek.com

The Golden Orb is a really good setup and looks "cool" for @$12-14, probably best bang for buck buy.
GlobalWin sets are also very good but cost @$20+.

You can find many reviews at http://www.reviewclick.com

You should post your results and check out the results others have had in the database at:

http://www.overclockers.com

Good luck

Thanks!

With these settings it runs like a dream! But only with open case.
When closed, it quickly hangs or does other stupiditys. Even extra intake fan in front of case doesn't help much.

GlobalWin has couple of interesting choises FDP 32, FKP 32 and
FOP 32. What should I consider while choosing?

Erki,

The millisec site says the FOP32 is the replacement for the FKP32 and is designed to also work on the Duron/T-bird, so no real difference in cooling. The FDP32 is a real good unit but BIG.
They give the dimensions so check to make sure they will fit on your board. I have some capacitors right against the cpu so had to be careful the heatsink would clear them.
The FKP and FOP have the fins raised up some so they will clear the capacitors.
I would measure carefully how much free area you have and if capacitors are close, how high they are. Then if you have a question about fit, just e-mail the place your buying from and ask them if they think it will fit.

You can check out the cooling reviews at Reviewclick, they have reviews for both the FKP and FDP, FOP is new so no reviews yet.

Any one of these will be a BIG improvement and you should be able to close the case up again.

In one of local computer shops I found Titan TTC-K63BFT cooler and it costs only about 10$. It was quite smaller than GlobalWin's products but it is a LOT cheaper. Is it so mutch worse too? Didn't find any reviews about it.

Erki,

Don't know anything about the Titan, checked their site and it looks like it is a good quality standard heatsink/fan combo. If you check on the Specification box on the product description page, you'll see that it only moves 10cfm. High performance units like Golden Orb and the GlobalWins move @27cfm.
Probably won't find any reviews since it is not a high performance unit.

http://www.titan-cd.com/pIIIcopp_1.htm#TTC-K63BFT

Don't think you would see much improvement over what you already have.

Is there any difference between orbs of different companies?

Found Titan's orb TTC-M1AB, it blows 21 CFM and think that will be enough.

I saw that one when I was checking out the site but if you look at the specs it doesn't come in a model for the K6 so won't work for you.

It is in the group "Coppermine and K6-3" so I guessed that it fits??

Erki,

Yeah it is kinda confusing, but if you look at the Features by the picture of it, it says "Majesty cooler, only for INTEL Pentium III COPPERMINE..."

If you click on the Product List at the top of the page, you'll see that they have 4 versions of their orb under the Majesty Series. 3 0f them are for Pentium III and 1 for K7 (Athlon). Sorry.

TTC-M1AB is made for Socket 370. Cause CPus of 370 and 7 are same size , it should fit (since it is made for 370). Coppermine is a bit thinner than older CPUs, so this cooler is made for thinner CPU than mine. That's why it will be pushed harder to my CPU and that is even better (better contact).

This is a explanation from a firm that sells Titan coolers around here. Aint anyting wrong about it?

Erki

P.S. look a bit higher there is a group called "Pentium III COPPERMINE ( FC-PGA ) , AMD K6-3 SERIES": Don't think that they put it wrong there??

Erki,

By happy coincidence, there is a review of the Titan Golden Orb that just showed up at;

http://www.eurisko.fr/actu/articles/goldenorb/index.php3

Like most Americans I'm linguistically disadvantaged, so I can't read it. From your name I'm guessing your European and may be more literate and can read it. Even if you can't, there are some good pictures of the Orb. If you look at the pictures of the bottom of the Orb, you'll see the name Thermaltake. That's the name of the American manufacturer, so it's the same one as I mentioned in an early post.

Since that's the case, then yes it should work with no problems. The way it was listed on the Titan site is confusing at best.

So it ends up that you found what I had mentioned, different name but same product.

Good luck with your new Golden Orb! Enjoyed our exchanges.

I'm oc'g the K6-400 and added a gammo fan that was focused on the cpu. This works well for me; now if I just get rid of the %%&*@ hangups that W98 keeps giving me I'll be a happy camper.
