k6-2 450, jumper settings for a Tyan AT s1570?

Hey all,

I recently got a Tyan Titan Turbo AT motherboard (s1570, socket7), with an Intel 430TX chipset. I'm trying to use a k6-2 450 on it, but haven't had any luck getting it to boot. The k6-2 450 has a CTX core, which means it can run at 66mhz bus speeds and will remap a 2x multiplier to 6x. This means the MB SHOULD be able to run it at 396mhz. It has a 2.2v vcore and 3.0v io. I believe the 1570 auto-adjusts chip voltage, but I haven't found any documentation on this. I had a k6-2 400 running on it before (2.0v vcore, 3.3v io), but I think fried it due to not having a HS/Fan on it right away. But again, it could just be the jumper settings.

I've set the MB to 2x, and I believe all the other jumpers are correct, but I'm not sure. I could have messed something up in the process of trying to get it to work. If someone has experience with this board, please give me a hand

Link to the manual.

Thanks for any help!!

Darin

Uh think you might consider this...?

The S1570 is a quality, high performance mainboard designed for Intel
Pentium microprocessors. This mainboard utilizes the Intel 430TX chipset
and can support CPU speeds of 75MHz through 200MHz. The S1570
will also support the CyrixM1/6x86 CPU's and the Intel multimedia
Pentium P55C/P54CTB (MMX Overdrive) which utilizes MMX com-mands

According to the manual (corrected link) it wont support the K6 2 series of processors...?

[edit] thanks for posting the fixed link.. I can't get it to post without the extra http://

This board was running the k6-2 400 just fine before I ran it without the hs/fan

I know technically it doesn't support them, but I purchased the board and processor (the 400mhz one) from TerryMathews, who had been running it just fine. I've heard of many other people doing the same thing. The k6-2 will underclock itself automatically if it has a CTX core, which the 400 and 450 have, so it can use a 66mhz bus and like I mentioned it will translate a 2x multiplier into 6x. It should work in most older socket7 boards.

Now that I'm trying to get the 450 to work, I can't get it to boot. The system works fine, because I have a p133 in it now and it's running great with no problems.

Packy... no problem on the link just use the "ftp" button instead of the "http" button... (I found it out the same way...)

As for the K6 2 450...? Might try lowering the multiplier to 5 or 5.5 (not sure if it has this...?) just to see if it would boot...?

This board is kinda limited unfortunately. The multipliers are 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3.0. That's why this processor can work... since it can interpret 2x as 6x.

I'm talking with TerryMathews too, to see if he can help me figure out how he was running it before.

Have you tried using the 3x setting, does the board boot? If not it could be cpu/jumpers. I memory serves me correct not all 400 were ctx cores. Try this link alsoMotherboards.org
If you get board to boot at a lower setting that?s half the battle good luck

Still didn't boot at 3x either. There must be another jumper I'm missing or SOMETHING.. dangit.

[edit] I checked both chips, and they are indeed CTX cores. The chips have the numbers 26351 on them, designating the CTX core.

Any ideas? I have a perfectly good k6-2 450 sitting here that I'm tempted to sell if I can't get it to work

My best guess about the board from look at user man is you need to set up jumpers as an mmx cpu (split plane) jumper setting should be as follows jp27 off / jp28 on / jp29 off / jp 30 off / jp 31 on / jp 32 on their under memory to right of cpu. Then you need to tell mb thats its a 133 mhz cpu (2x66mhz should translate for you to higher multplyer) those settings should be jp10 on / jp 11 off / jp13 the jumper should be on pins 1 & 2 not pins 3 & 4. Hope this works good luck MB man is hereftp://ftp.tyan.com/manuals/titan/m_s1570_100.pdf

Thanks, I'll give those a try. I've been pouring over the manual for the last two weeks or so with no luck. I believe I currently have the board set up exactly as you described, which is runnning a p133 just fine. I think I may just give up and try to get a super socket 7 board that's designed to run a k6-2.

Oh well!
