Is there any way to boost the output level of the sound above and beyond what can be set through volume control and the c-media application?

unfortunately, the onboard audio on the K7s5a is crappy. I asked the exact same question you did a while ago about amplifying sound through software or a trinket i could maybe buy at Radio Shack.

I just said screw it and installed an A3d 1.0 card I had laying around.

What OS are you using? Which driver version do you have installed? All volume settings set to max?

Exactly. The sound chip on this board is junk. Get a vortex 2 for ten bucks and you'll be happier. I ran the vortex until recently upgraded to the TBSC.

The sound is just fine, it's just not amplified. Get some amplified speakers, and you'll be fine

I wonder how many people put unpowered speakers on their sound card and then wonder why it sounds terrible when they try to crank the volume.
