Cool I figured that when I build my rig I'll invest in the Thermalright XP-90 HSF and hopefully that will eliminate the air cooling as the limiting factor in my overclock.

The stock cooler isn't so bad, that is what I'm using, with the included thermal pad. I use Cool N' Quiet and it's reading 33C on EVEREST.

Cobalt, have you had problems since enabling Cool N Quiet? Almost every A64 OCing guide I read says to disable that feature, but I would like to try it out as my case noise wan't infact the NB fan, but the CPU fan, which is running faster than all hell.
Also, check for my last post up the page, I asked you about some RAM settings but I think you might've overlooked that post. thx

That's interesting cobalt. So does the BIOS on the motherboard remember the overclocking setting when Cool'n'Quiet is enabled?
I always thought that if Cool'n'Quiet was enabled for an overclock it would reset any changes to achieve the overclock.

Ok, I finally had some free time today and was going to try a little overclocking of my Venice 3000+ on the Neo4-f.
I startup CPU-Z and notice a couple of things under the CPU tab that really bother me:
- the voltage is 1.040V
- the multiplier is x5
- the HTT is 200.9Mhz
- The core speed is 1004.6Mhz
Is my CPU running severly underclocked right now???
I went into the BIOS and checked the settings - CPU VCore was set to 1.45 (which is the maximum, for some reason). The multiplier was set to x9. FSB was 200. The Bios said the current clock was 1800Mhz.
However, once in Windows, I get the settings above. MSI's CoreCenter also shows 200 x5 = 1000Mhz. And, unsurprisingly, the CPU is running at a cool 32C on air.
Am I just misreading something, or is my CPU really running at 1Ghz? And how the hell can I get it to at least the normal 1.8?
My guess is that this is a bios issue (given all the problems w/ MSI's bios), but I wanted to check. I have 1.5 installed right now. Should I try flashing to the 1.71 beta? What about the 1.73 beta?
Also, I don't have a floppy drive installed right now - could I make a bootable CD and do it from there?

Nothing is wrong. Cool N' Quiet is on. When you aren't doing anyting CPU intensive, it drops the multiplier to 5x and drops the voltage. Mine right now is at 1.5ghz (300x5) and 1.3v.

Then go into your BIOS and go to the CPU multiplier. I assume it's set to "Start up". Make it 9x.
EDIT: And put the voltage to 1.45v, which should be stock. If you want to overvolt when you OC, you need to use the percentages in the Over Vid menu.

I fixed it! I flashed to 1.71b (you can find it in this topic) and now it works fine! yay! If you're worried about flashing, use winflash, as it'll do it from the windows environment. Enjoy your newfound speed.
