Jax, I found this old post while searching for a problem I'm having. I have the same configuration as you, the K8NXP-SLI and a Plextor SATA DVD. I have been trying with lame help from Gigabyte tech support for a while now to get the Plextor to work with this mobo. Is your system up and running?

I think this is very simple. You do not have the SATA drive specified before the CD-Rom in the boot order in BIOS.

After the Windows installer installs all the basic files it reboots into a "boot strap" of Windows and continues the bulk of the installation. It should boot off the drive. However on your system it's not seeing the drive and so it defaults to booting from the CD.

In BIOS you need to change the boot order. Make the floppy 1st, the CD 2nd and the SATA (or it might be labelled SCSI or Other - BIOS and Windows treat SATA controllers as SCSI controllers) as the 3rd. You do NOT want HDD0 thru HDD4 specified in the boot order at all, or if they have to be put them AFTER the SATA drive.

Hope this helps...

Sorry, I don't think I described my problem at all, which is confusing.

I have the same mobo, a HDD on the nForce SATA (non-RAID) and a Plex SATA DVD. I already have windows up and running, which I did with an IDE drive. The HDD works just fine.

My problem is that I can't get the SATA DVD to work with this mobo (it does work with an 8IPE1000Pro that I have). If I plug it into the nForce SATA, BIOS sees the DVD drive but windows hangs at the splash screen. If I plug it into the SI SATA, BIOS doesn't see it at all.

Sorry, but I was replying to Jax.

Not sure what your problem is Wesh. SATA DVDs are new and Windows may require a driver for it. I've heard of some newer DVD IDE drives not being recognized by Windows as well.

I would check with the DVD drive manufacturer - see if there's a patch or driver on their website. Most manufacturers usually have a FAQ as well.

Try doing a google newsgroup search for your DVD drive model.

Hope this helps...
