I personally think using that case would be just fine. I know that it seems most people disagree with using a cheap case though.
As for the MB's, I personally prefer Epox. Also the Epox is a NF3 board, which IMO is superior to the Via boards.

I have used an Abit AV8 (via Pro chipset) and the Epox and I liked the Abit a lot better. The abit feels faster and snapier than the Epox. I would try to avoid the MSI and get an Abit or an Asus. MSI boards are good but kind of picky and takes time to get them to run great. The Epox and the Abit on the other hand run great out of the box (I have an MSi Neo Platinum and it took me a while to have it running great)

Besides the fact the I think it's ugly, you would likely want a case that has 2 intakes and one out take. Better to have two intakes in the front with one out take in the back for good air flow.

Powmax's PSU's were good, but I don't know how they fair with 6800/x800 video cards. You could be taking a risk there, but it might get the job done. Only one way to find out.
