In the Army it depended upon when you served. I was in for 5 years, from Jan 91 through Jan 95. Due to the Gulf War promotion points were really high for about 3 - 4 years. I went in as E3, Got E4 in about 18 months, but wasn't offered chance to go E5 until almost 4 years in, but on the condition I would be reenlisting. They basically said I had to stay a minimum of 18 months and my time remaining was less than that. Battalion CSM was pretty upset I turned it down. So I served 5 years and was only an E4. Looks like Vance went in the marines as an E1 and left at 4 years as an E3, Sounds like he wasn't NCO material.

I went in in ‘72, ets’d Pearl Harbor Day. 1979.

It's not just that (the unchallenged lies). So much of what Trump says seems too bonkers to have come from a former president and the nominee of a major party, so journalists seem to piece together a story as if Trump were a normal person. The Republican nominee, the man who could return to office is a serial liar and can’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy.

Donald Trump is not well. He is not stable. There’s something deeply wrong with him. THIS should be the headlines!

Trump just has no qualms about lying. Most humans talk as a means of conveying information. We ask questions and share ideas in order to learn things and connect with others. That’s not why Trump talks. He uses words to try to manipulate people. He tells them what he wants them to believe. On some level, he might know it’s not true, it just doesn’t matter to him.

For example - if a reporter asks him “Willie Brown says he was never in a helicopter with you, do you have evidence to the contrary?”

He’ll just claim he never said that, and follow it up with - “That’s a very rude question. I agreed to this interview, and you ask a terrible question like that. It’s very unfair, but the press has always treated me badly.”

He doesn't plan, or calculate, or think things through to any extent. It's not some carefully crafted media strategy. He wants it to be true, it would be to his advantage for people to believe it, so he says it. In the time it takes you to scratch your head and wonder what the fuck he was thinking, he’ll have said half a dozen more things he wants the world to believe.

I think felons should be allowed to vote, period, even before they have "paid their debt to society," i.e. while incarcerated, etc. I mean how much damage can they do with a pen, ballot and voter information guides?

In concept I agree. However, it opens up the voting to a lot of potential abuse in numerous ways. For example, prison guards coercing to vote a certain way. Ballots not being kept secret, etc. But I'm open to it.

As soon as a sentence is served, you should definitely be and to vote.

Edit: I will NOT watch Trump's 2PM address. The only live thing with him I would watch is him debasing himself attempting to debate Kamala Harris. I boycotted the RNC, saw only some lowlights.

It will be interesting to see how she prepares for a debate with this clown. He pretty much says the same shit every time. In a vacuum it would be unpredictable, but we have a whole series of ramblings/word salads. The rules for this debate are identical to those of the CNN debate. There will be no wandering. And if he does wander toward her, she should just loudly snap her fingers next to his ear.

Some things to possibly do:

Responds to one of Trump’s BS comments by straight up laughing. Just laugh for the entirety of her allotted time for a response. Trump’s ego can shrug off a lot but he hates being laughed at.

Ignore him. if Trump answered a question with his usual nonsense and then, when it is Harris’ turn, she just said, “Think about what just came out of his mouth. It deserves no response.” And then she goes silent for her two minutes.

Harris repeats “loser” five or 10 times during the debate, Trump’s response could be to lose his shit, stamp his foot, scream “I’m not a loser!” He will lose any train of thought that he might have had, and he won’t be able to put together a coherent answer.

Harris can counter Trump’s firehose of lies is … not to try. It’s impossible. Trump does not do deep preparation for a debate. He engages in a Gish Gallop spewing all sorts of nonsense which can be impossible for his opponent to address. She needs to prepare some general counters like, “Just about everything that just came out of his mouth - what I could understand of it, anyway - was a lie. Here’s what my administration would do on this issue: [insert positive policy here.]” She has to be likable. Destroy him but in good humor.
