NEW YORK Now that Time Inc. has turned over documents to federal court, presumably revealing who its reporter, Matt Cooper, identified as his source in the Valerie Plame/CIA case, speculation runs rampant on the name of that source, and what might happen to him or her. Tonight, on the syndicated McLaughlin Group political talk show, Lawrence O'Donnell, senior MSNBC political analyst, claimed to know that name--and it is, according to him, top White House mastermind Karl Rove.

Curious if anyone's heard this yet on any other news sources? I don't know if this website has a political slant or not so don't get on me about this. Its 4am and I was just passed this link from amusingly a Guild Wars guild mate of mine, who's a journalist and pointed me towards this article.

edit: Isn't this sort of thing considered treason and once grounds for capital punishment?
Not to stray off topic but some interesting people you meet in that game btw.

Karl Rove is a slug. He's a traitor and very bad for the country. His advice should not be taken or followed, especially by any "White House".
It would do us all good to see his face behind bars.
In any other era of this country, he would be.

IF true, this should be an enormous scandal dwarfing Watergate. Watergate was, at its core, a simple break and entry job for political purposes, accompanied by a coverup at the highest levels of government. This situation involves a despicable act of treason (revealing the names of America's spys) purely for political gain, done by the President's chief planner.

Treason is a capital offense and Bush has never shown the least bit reluctance to fry prisoners as the governor of Texas. Think he'll put his own Rasputin in the chair?

Knowing that slimeball bush, he probably has his 'presidential pardon' template all set up in microsoft word for such an occassion.

E&P is also carrying this story...

MSNBC Analyst Says Cooper Documents Reveal Karl Rove as Source in Plame Case

I hope Rove stands trial for treason and is sentenced to be shot at daybreak on the White House lawn where Bush can watch. Becuase once this house of cards starts falling it's going to end with Bush.

I think everybody who tried to cover this up should be sit along side Rove.

But Rove will get a pardon. If Nixon can get a pardon so can Rove.

Never mind pardon...he'll probably get a Presidential medal, if not a promotion

That's exactly what I think... Do we honestly believe with this current administration the "architect" will actually face treason charges? If you ask me it will amount to no more than a slap on the wrist, pardon, or possibly perjury charges. Playing devils advocate here...to the Bush supporters of the forum, if this is indeed true.. what do you think should happen to him.

this won't go anywhere even if Rove is the source. like 1% of people have even heard of the plame story, nobody cares.

After all the crap the Clintons put us through it will be interesting to see if anyone cares or if we are all still numb to the concept of corruption in the white house. Maybe Gonzalas will pull a Reno and look the other way...

Personally I think the libs will scream at the top of their lungs "hang him - hang him!" - then Dubbya will kick off the Supreme Court nomination circus and Rove (If any of this is even true - remember this is one guy blabbing on one show) will fall to the back page if he's even mentioned at all.

According to the Clintonites perjury isn't much of a crime.

treason > perjury

Selling missile technology to China... Giving nukes to N Korea...
Me thinks the Clintonistas didn't think much of treason either.

This will be huge. The Republicans are the party of morality and will never allow themselves to be shown as hypocrites by giving Rove a pass for perjury regarding the outing of a CIA agent when we have all seen what they will do if you lie under oath about something like sex.

Expect the Republican Hands-of-God to go after Rove with stones. They will want to know what Bush knew and when he knew it too. Righteous wrath is not something moral people can turn on and off.

Pfffft--Rove probably knows what you ate for lunch last Tuesday (and how to use that information against you if need be). Top secret information is nothing where the Pillsbury Dough Boy is concerned.

Should be an interesting ride. As is usual, a coverup often has more serious consequences than the original offense. There's a steep burden of proof of intent wrt the national security charge- no such excessive burden exists for perjuring yourself in front of a grand jury.

I suspect that Miller's notes and/or testimony will soon be forthcoming, as well. So maybe we'll get to the bottom of it, after all, and maybe Joe Wilson's frog march scenario will play out, too.....

With a little luck, the current Speaker of the House could end up in the oval office...

If it's true, he should be hanged. Of course it is true, but he won't be hanged...too bad! Would be a nice spectacle...

The question now becomes... did he get orders from higher up?
