You are a blinded little girl, aren't you? The information that Assange LEAKED was classified and as such it is illegal to possess unless authorized to do so. He and his site took information that was illegally obtained/leaked and released it for the world to see. The information that he leaked could potential get my eldest son (who just got back from the Middle East) killed and harm our soldiers.

Assange deserves so much more hate than I can ever dish up ... he has my country's classified info, he decided what to publish, he flaunted it for the world to see and he (hopefully) will be going down soon.

Is that fucking ignorant enough for you?

How do diplomatic messages that have nothing to do with the current military situations in Afghanistan endanger our troops?

Have you even been following the leaks as they are released? The leaks are DAMAGING our relationships with other countries, countries we are trying to cooperate with on a number of issues (terrorism, N. Korea, etc.). Damaging those relationships means less trust/cooperation from them.

I'm done with you Schneider. I have to "dumb down" to have a discussion with you ... and it hurts.

Good night ...

Neither has any administration for the last 100 years...

The administrations for the last 100 years have been Democrat or Republican. This is the problem.

What law bans guns?

The idiotic laws in California that ban "assault weapons" and "unsafe pistols". The federal laws that don't let me buy a new fully automatic firearm.

In District of Columbia v. Heller, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment secures an individual right to own and possess handguns in a home for self-defense. In District of Columbia v. Heller, the Court stated that an absolute firearm ban was unconstitutional.

The Court further determined that its decision in Heller does not impinge upon all existing statutes and regulations, such as those that prohibit felons and the mentally ill from owning or possessing firearms.

Are you saying you know the constitution better than the Supreme Court?

What exactly is your legal and political science education?

the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. There's no ambiguity in that.

How does that get our troops killed? Answer the question. And stop with the personal attacks. Thanks.

Assange didn't leak anything, the guy giving it to him leaked it. Assange was just a messenger for the leaker. Stop attacking the messenger. It sucks that some of this shit can be used against us, oh well though. I'm glad leaks happen, I'm glad that governments have to stay on their toes, that doesn't mean I don't think they shouldn't have secrets.

PS I have family in the military and a brother who lost a chunk of his leg and his best friend to an IED in Iraq.

So. We. Agree.

And .. the assault weapons ban in California can be argued to violate Article 1, Section 8, Clause 16:

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

Yet... noone seems to want to challenge the law.

And you have yet to show how a potentially illegal law in CALIFORNIA... makes the United States Government ... Tyrannical.

According to him and/or his lawyer, he hasn't had the opportunity to see the charges laid against him.
He would probably be quite glad of this leak, because now he knows what he's being accused of in detail.

assange had the opportunity not to release it. while it was stolen by someone else, it was let loose by assange. he's not a journalist, so technically he was leaking it to the actual press by proxy.

Must have fun laws there.
There's nothing there that he could be charged with here.

I'm pretty sure in Canada having sex with a woman who is asleep would equal rape. How could she consent while unconscious? I think the courts here are reviewing one case where consent was allegedly given before sleeep but that doesn't seem to be the case for Assange. Anyway, his unwelcomed rubbing is sexual assault.

Whether he is one or not ... I just enjoy seeing his personal info "leaked" for the world to see.

Even if it doesn't hurt his defense?

What if this helps his case? I rather doubt you would enjoy that.

Well, here's a thought, maybe we should just stop being a bunch of sneaky lying bastards when dealing with other countries.

I love what Assange is doing. Kudos to him for standing up for what's right.

I take it you're not American.

He must be if he believes that the fake charges against Assange are true and that his government is the ultimate deity of pureness and compassion.

Nazi Germany would have thrived with Americans, no matter how evil they were they would always be defended because they are "our government" and "we are patriotic".

air all of his dirty laundry.

I agree. People who live in glass house should not throw stones.

totally agree with this, but what Assange did is hardly rape (well, perhaps except for the plowing the chick while she was asleep part :hmm, and who gives a rat's ass if his personal life is exposed?

the Swedish case is just a bunch of trumped-up BS.

If any relationships are being damaged, it's between all countries.

Honestly, some of the most revealing stuff is the private cables from diplomats, with some rather tongue-in-cheek comments about these world leaders--all of it centuries-old diplo speak that has been accepted and understood as the "necessary" backspeak for diplomatic relations.

I don't think any nation is any more or less harmed than another in this regard. If anything, these leaks--which simply put the accepted dialogue out front for everyone to see (certainly embarrassing, none of it surprising)--will represent a paradigm shift in how diplomatic relations are conducted in the future.

Now, time will tell if this is a good or a bad thing. Some think it is a noble thing for governments to be completely open and transparent in their relations. Others take the stance that it is imperative that nations take the interests of their people--security, culture, way of life--ahead of the needs of other nations, whether or not they are friendly. Such needs do require diplomatic doublespeak.

I'm not completely convinced that transparency is the best way to go. it would be nice to see more honesty in these relationships, sure--but I tend to think such beliefs come from naive people who simply don't understand the complexities that exist in the world of people. Such people tend to want to live in safety and liberty, and conduct their lives honestly, yet fail to realize that much of the work that goes into protecting this safety and way of life involves some backdoor shenanigans.

I also thought it was hillarious when I read that the police report got leaked.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it only helps his case. It allows his defence to prepare for these charges in light of the new information, however bogus these charges may be.
