Kaspersky or BitDefender?

My research on these two has proven inconclusive, I'd like to know if anyone recommends one of these.

I'm looking for a anti-virus, anti-spyware(because windows defender sucks) type programs, thanks.

Neither! Zone Alarms Internet Security...

Offers a comprehensive set of features that blows Kaspersky and Bitdefender out of the water... while at the same time integrating Kaspersky anti virus engine in the Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite.

But if you are stuck on those two I would choose Kaspersky because the support for the product on Bitdefender is lacking from my own personal experience.

there is no comparision between the two. kaspersky is one of the best detectors better than zonealarm. it has the highest unpacking engine in the world better than nod32 but more cpu resource use. bitdefender is primitive. sad that ms got pump out there own spyware killer says alot about there security

If you want only Anti Virus then yes Kaspersky is the best hands down but for a all around security suite nothing beats Zone Alarm's new security suite...

Looking at the prices though you get only the anti virus and nothing else for $50.00 at Kaspersky while at the same time for $50.00 you get firewall, anti virus (which has Kaspersky's a/v engine), spam, etc. from Zone Labs... does not take a math genious to figure out what is a better buy between the two

I somewhat shake my head at anyone who has any faith in any security suite. (1) The popular suites are exactly what malware writers test their wares with. They keep working until it gets through the the same suite they have on their test bed computer--if it penetrates theirs, it will get you as readily. So security lesson number one. Be unpredictable.
As for the rest of the lessons---thats on the consolidated security thread--or John's malware guide. Think a defense made of many different layers.
Where you can use the best available products in each group on a mix and match basis.

Security suites just breed overconfidence and user ignorance---the biggest security hole in any computer is the user.

good anti-spyware is spysweeper and avg anti-spyware

if you really want to be mega mega tight and secure is to use a sandbox. this will stop all spyware dead getting onto your pc. you surf and run applications on a virtual drive and any bad stuff gets into the virtual drive only. so soon as you close the application the virtual drive close and all nasties with it. say you ran firefox in a sandbox it makes a clone of all your firefox settings in the spare virtual drive and you surf like normal all settings, surfing data gets saved into the sandbox. its a piece of cake setup and use and virtual drive is setup instantly.

I haven't used BitDefender.

I have Kaspersky 6 Anti-Virus, and have never ever seen a single virus get past it. Before Kaspersky I had McAfee for years.

When first installed you have to work with it a bit to set up a lot of "trusted zones" or else it stops most executables from running.
Once you get the .exe files for your applications all set up as trusted zones, then after that Kaspersky is totally deadly to anything else.

It automatically updates itself with new .dat files every hour.

I have used both and to be honest when I installed Bitedefender it actually picked up a virus that Kaspersky did not(it may have been a false alarm ,but I did tell Bitdefender to remove it).

The new Bitdefender 10 uses a lot less resources then the older Bitdefender 9 version,to be honest both anti-virus programs(Kaspersky and Bit) are both excellent,Kaspersky is regarded as the best,however Bitdefender is an excellent AV program in its own right with hourly updates too.

IMHO can't go wrong with either. Do note I'm talking about the paid versions.

Look at my previous post above and you will see that Zone Alarms uses Kaspersky for their A/V now.

One thing in for what it is worth department---you can hedge your bet by using free scans at any number of internet sites.
I know and have used both bit defender and Kaspersky for free scans---panda, McAfee, and trend micro also free scans.
Won't say the list is complete but if you have any doubts about the AV you have--you can try another for free.
