I have a 600MHz PIII Katmai in my old computer(well... this computer.. my new system is still in pieces) and it seems like this particular processor goes for $180 on eBay, which compares pretty well to buying new Celeron 1.2GHz, Slocket and fan. I am thinking of selling this processor and going to Celery 1.2GHz, because according to my math, it will cost me none or very very little.
do you think this would be a worthwhile upgrade or could it even be a downgrade??? I understand that I'd be only getting 256K of L2 cache rather than 512K. Still, I think 1.2GHz Celery can smoke PIII running at half the speed even in most demanding, database or server application.
I am using Abit BE6 by the way. I hope it can take Celery 1.2GHz.
PS. P3's are significantly more costly than Celeron and to be honest, Celeron doesn't have as good "image" as P3.. but whats the difference in reality?
