So long as the Constitution says the Supreme Court is the highest court in the country the credibility of any individual member or even the members collectively is irrelevant in that calculus. If you get the verdicts you want and they cannot be overturned you have won.

I'm not so sure about that, I think the court's credibility is all it has as it has no way to enforce its judgments or protect its independence otherwise. If the court is viewed as a relatively fair and neutral arbiter then the other branches of government are constrained by public opinion. If the court loses credibility, not so much. While I already think Democrats should pack the courts if/when they achieve unified power their ability to do so would be strongly affected by the public's views of the courts as legitimate. If the courts aren't viewed as credible or legitimate anymore maybe all of a sudden instead of having a 9 member court with a Republican majority you have a 19 member court with a Democratic one.

This might sound extreme but while I would have thought of this as unthinkable even two years ago it seems that things are moving rapidly in this sort of direction.
